Samsung Galaxy S20 series also deserves support for 4 Android updates
Samsung announced the Galaxy S20 series devices with support for two major operating system updates, but expanded this to three generations at the Galaxy Note 20 launch event. Now , Samsung is offering four Android upgrades for its current and last year's flagships, with the 2020 Samsung Galaxy S20 obviously not making the list.
The Samsung Galaxy S20, launched in February 2020, is one of the company's most popular flagship smartphones. There are four models in this series – Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S20 FE. All of these devices shipped with Android 10 based One UI 2.x.
On February 9th, Samsung made a very big announcement regarding the expansion of its software updates. At Galaxy Unpacked 2022, the company confirmed that the Galaxy S22 and Tab S8 series devices will be updated to the new Android/One UI generation four times.
In addition to the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 series, the 2021 Galaxy S21 series as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are now compatible with the four major Android upgrades. While the Galaxy S20 and S21 series phones share various similarities, the former lineup won't get a fourth update.
Although the Samsung Galaxy S20 series does not support four Android updates, it will still get 3 updates, the last one will be Android 13-based One UI 5.0 (tentative name).
But since the Samsung Galaxy S20 series could technically easily create a fourth Android update, why doesn't Samsung roll out one for these models as well? The leap from Samsung Galaxy S10 to S20 was big, the models after that were only a small upgrade. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy S20 series should also get support for 4 Android updates!
