Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra: Samsung brings failed technology back to the tablet

Samsung will soon be introducing not only the Galaxy S22 smartphones, but also new Galaxy Tab S8 tablets. A technology should then be used again that was previously used in an Android tablet, but was thrown out again in the successor. Will things get better now?

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra with in-display fingerprint sensor

Just a few days ago, all details about the Galaxy Tab S8, S8 Plus and S8 Ultra were leaked. The technical specifications were in French, so that one detail was not even noticed. On closer inspection, however, it becomes clear that Samsung is bringing the in-display fingerprint sensor back into the tablet . The South Korean company had already integrated this into the Galaxy Tab S6, but removed it from the Galaxy Tab S7 because it was simply unreliable. It returns again with the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra (source: Roland Quandt).

In fact, Samsung will not only install the in-display fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, but also in the Galaxy Tab S8 Plus . Only the normal Galaxy Tab S8 gets nothing. This could be due to the built-in display. Only the more expensive models get an AMOLED display, while the base model uses a TFT screen.

Unfortunately, it is not known which technology Samsung uses for the in-display fingerprint sensor. Does it work optically or ultrasonically , as is known from the high-end Galaxy S21 smartphones. The latter would of course be desirable, because this technology works very reliably and works quickly. Optical fingerprint sensors are slightly slower. It is also unclear where the fingerprint sensor is installed. Samsung will tell us that at the presentation.

Samsung has already released a teaser for the upcoming Unpacked event:

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is going to be very expensive

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will not be cheap. According to the previous leaks, the largest Samsung tablet of all time with the best equipment to date is sold at prices between 1,149 and 1,599 euros. We are already curious whether the high price is justified. It is, after all, an Android tablet.
