{Disarmed} Windows 11 gets first major update with new media player, better taskbar and Android app support

It's time for the first major Windows 11 update! On the way to launch, one of the most hyped features of Windows 11 was the ability to run Android apps. Unfortunately, the mode wasn't ready in time for Microsoft's release of the operating system, so it was pushed to the Windows Insider Beta program.

Last month, the company announced that long-awaited Android app support would finally be available in February, along with a host of other improvements. Now the time has finally come as Windows 11 is rolling out the Amazon Appstore Preview with the latest update.

Microsoft announced that thanks to its partnership with Amazon, over 1,000 apps and games are available for Windows 11 - a huge improvement over the only 50 apps supported in previous tests. Users can try the apps through the Amazon Appstore Preview if their system meets the hardware requirements - at least 8 GB RAM, an SSD and a supported processor.

Apps currently available include Amazon apps like Kindle and Audible, as well as some popular games and productivity tools. And many more well-known apps.

To get started, update the Microsoft Store, search for your favorite apps or games, and download them from the Amazon Appstore. The apps should run like a part of Windows. The Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), which powers the Amazon Appstore, runs in a Hyper-V virtual machine and interprets Android API calls to access the appropriate systems in Windows: memory buffers, graphics planes, sensors, and all other parts of your computer.

While Android support is the main part of this update, Microsoft is also delivering a number of other new features. Notable additions include the ability to display weather information on the taskbar and clock information on the taskbar of external monitors, a button to mute and unmute the microphone from the taskbar during team calls, and updated Notepad and Media Player apps with new designs .
