Announced by the Government of Spain on April 27, from now on — more specifically from January 1, 2022 — all Xiaomi phones , routers , speakers , scooters , projectors , watches and even toothbrushes that you buy in Spain they have a new guarantee, an extra year than usual.

Three years of legal guarantee, ten years of spare parts
This law brings together two important battles that all users have won. The first, the right to repair , that is, the responsibility of companies to offer replacement options in the interest of an evolution in terms of sustainability, public health and food safety .
The second, the warranty extension, a regulation that can be read in the BOE, in Royal Decree-Law 7/2021 . On the other hand, the non-conformity terms go from 3 to 5 years and from 6 months to 1 (or 2 years, depending on the type of product) to accredit and report the non-conformity . In other words, when a product does not conform to the conditions of use by the consumer, the contract that we "sign" every time we buy something can be "split".
The consumer defense law — specifically articles 114, 115 and 116 — dictates that "The seller is obliged to deliver to the consumer and user products that are in accordance with the contract, responding to him for any lack of conformity that exists in the time of delivery of the product.
Regarding the right to repair products, this regulation establishes that every manufacturer must have components and spare parts for 10 years. An ambitious supply that, some experts already point out, will lead many brands to opt for massive recycling, a decrease in innovation in favor of longer useful lives and an increase in the general cost of technological devices.
But it should be borne in mind that many large companies – and Xiaomi is recognized among them – obtain the bulk of their profits from services, in addition to having developed strategies for recycling stacks . Digital services, applications, video or music files and others will only have a two-year warranty, as before.
