{Disarmed} Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 + are to get the new ISOCELL GN5 50 MP camera sensor
It will be a few more months before the new Samsung Galaxy S22 series is launched. However, some details about Samsung's upcoming high-end smartphones have already been leaked. A few weeks ago it was announced that the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 + will be equipped with an improved 50 MP sensor. It has now been announced that this is not Samsung's newest 50 MP ISOCELL sensor.
Accordingly, the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22 + should use the recently introduced ISOCELL GN5 camera sensor from Samsung. This is a 1 / 1.57-inch sensor with a native 50 MP resolution and 1 μm pixel size.
The ISOCELL GN5 can record 12.5 MP images (2 μm pixels) in 4-in-1 pixel binning mode and 100 MP images using a remosaic algorithm. It has Dual Pixel Pro autofocus for faster focusing, Front Deep Trench Isolation for lower noise, Smart ISO, Smart ISO Pro, Multi-Frame Sampling and staggered HDR. 8K videos with 30 frames per second and 4K slow-motion videos with 120 frames per second can also be recorded.
While it's an improvement over the 12 MP 1 / 1.76-inch sensor used in the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 +, it's still not Samsung's best 50 MP sensor. We would have liked the upcoming high-end cell phones from the South Korean company to use the ISOCELL GN1 (1 / 1.31 inch) or the ISOCELL GN2 (1 / 1.12 inch), as both sensors are larger than the ISOCELL GN5 and can take better pictures because of the larger native pixels.
It is believed that the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 + will have a triple camera on the back, consisting of a 50 MP wide-angle camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 10 MP telephoto camera with triple optical zoom.
