{Disarmed} Apple & Toyota: Will the Apple Car arrive in 2024?
Is Apple still planning its legendary Apple Car? Allegedly, the iPhone maker is in talks with several Asian suppliers and manufacturers to find the best partners for the mass production of its Apple Car, which should begin in 2024.
It's been ten years since the first rumors arose that Apple wanted to join the ranks of automakers. While there have been only more rumors and no official announcements since then, Apple appears to be making progress on these plans.
According to a recent DigiTimes report, Apple has started talks with several Asian auto suppliers and even manufacturers to discuss possible collaborations with regard to mass production of the Apple car. Given the ongoing shortage of microchips and semiconductors, Apple appears to have to plan years in advance to source the necessary components for its electric vehicle.
Rumor has it that Apple has met with several Chinese suppliers who may be able to manufacture batteries for the Apple car, but their unwillingness to comply with Apple's request that the batteries be manufactured on American soil has left the company with fewer options. As a result, Apple has shifted its search for suppliers to South Korea and Japan, where the company has reportedly already spoken to Panasonic, LG, Samsung, and others.
However, rumors persist that Apple could partner with a traditional automaker such as Toyota or Hyundai, who could provide the manufacturer with the expertise it needs in mass producing cars, SUVs, and, in the case of Toyota, even trucks. Even if such a collaboration would make sense, it's just guesswork.
