Telegram catches up with WhatsApp: alternative messenger increasingly popular

Telegram developers can pat themselves on the back. Messenger has now been downloaded over a billion times. In the first half of 2021, the number of downloads rose massively - and that has to do with the faltering competition from WhatsApp.

Telegram grew significantly, especially in the first half of 2021. In the first six months of the year, Messenger was downloaded around 215 million times worldwide. Compared to the same period in the previous year, there was an increase of 61 percentage points .
