Nintendo Switch Lite versus Nintendo Switch - the biggest differences between the new and old model
A slimmer, cheaper version of the Nintendo Switch Lite console has been officially presented . What is the new version of the device different from the model released in 2017? We have decided to present you the biggest differences between both products.
Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite ? $ 300 versus $ 200
Released in 2017, Nintendo Switch keeps its price very much. The Japanese do not have to lower it because the Switch sells perfectly. This is the most popular gaming platform in 2018, as well as in the first half of 2019. Which of course does not mean that the product could not sell even better. Many of my friends are waiting for the Switch to drop to the price level of PS4 or Xbox One. Well, they waited.
The Nintendo Switch Lite will cost $ 200. This is by 1/3 less than the price of the 2017 model. The Polish price of the device will probably be set somewhere between PLN 800 and PLN 1000. Thanks to this, the Switch will for the first time become competitively priced in relation to such platforms as Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, the newer and more attractive price has been paid off with several important compromises.
Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite : docking station versus no connection to the TV
Nintendo Switch from 2017 is a hybrid console. We can use it in both mobile and landline mode. The docking station attached to the set simultaneously charges the device and also transfers the picture to the TV screen. Games and programs then have an increased resolution from 720p to 1080p or alternatively from 560p to 720p.
The new Nintendo Switch Lite does not have a docking station added to the set. What's even more important, the device is in no way compatible with displaying content on TV. In Lite, we play exclusively on the move, just like on 3DS and PSP handhelds. A great pity, especially from the perspective of production, ideally suited to the common play in the salon. I mean mainly new Mario Party, Dragon Ball FighterZ, FIFA, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Diablo 3.
Pull-out Joy-Cons versus Joy-Cons embedded in a housing
Nintendo Switch is a tablet with two pull-out controllers and slides on the sides using rails. Thanks to this solution, there is no obstacle to give one Joy-Cona to a friend and play together in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mortal Kombat 11 or Crash Team Racing. Pull-out Joy-Cons also allow you to handle games with the help of hand movements, like on the Wii console. In this way, we bounce the ball with a racket at Mario Tennis Aces or we shoot with a bow in the new The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
On the Nintendo Switch Lite, both Joy-Cons are permanently attached to the housing. Thanks to this, the structure appears more robust and more coherent. Unfortunately, if we want to play with a friend, it is necessary to buy separate, wireless controllers. It is also necessary to buy Joy-Cons that support motion control for games like 1-2 Switch. It's worth adding that built-in Lite controllers do not support HD Rumble vibrations.
Lack of handling of moves and gestures, as well as lack of support for HD Rumble vibrations can lead to compatibility problems among parts of games. Therefore, all games compatible with the newer Nintendo Switch Lite will have such designation on the case as above.
6.2 inch screen versus 5.5 inch screen
The Nintendo Switch from 2017 is a tablet with a 6.2-inch 720p screen. The display is characterized by excellent colors and sufficient resolution. His Achilles heel, in turn, is maximum brightness. In the rays of the holiday sun, the Switch can be much less readable. In several games, you also have the impression that the screen could be slightly larger, so that the fonts and dialog lines become more pronounced.
Nintendo Switch Lite got a smaller, 5.5-inch screen at the same resolution of 720p. Not counting the size, the new display is no different from that installed in the predecessor of 2017. Unfortunately, for some reason there was no light sensor in Lite. It is not known what the decision dictated. An even smaller screen can be a problem when playing productions with a large number of displayed information. I mean, for example, Diablo 3, Final Fantasy XII or Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Rechargeable battery for 3 hours of play versus a little longer
According to the official specification provided by Nintendo, the Nintendo Switch allows for a wireless game of 2.5 to 6.5 hours. It all depends on the load on the systems that the machine undergoes when starting a particular game. For example, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild allows the battery to operate just over 3 hours on a single charge.
The battery in the Nintendo Switch Lite console will allow a slightly longer game. However, one should not expect gigantic changes. Most probably, we're talking about exactly the same battery that is able to create a dozen additional minutes of the game thanks to the smaller display and the Joy-Conom embedded permanently.
Weight, housing, buttons and minor differences
Nintendo Switch Lite is also characterized by several smaller, not so significant differences. One of them is the conversion of directional buttons into the directional cross. In my opinion, this is a drawback, but reading comments on Spider's Web is not lacking supporters of such a solution. There is no footer, thanks to which we could put the Switch tablet in a standing position. The Lite version will not allow it.
The Nintendo Switch Lite will be noticeably lighter but also slightly smaller in relation to the older model. In addition, it will be released in three different color versions: dark gray, gold and sea. An additional collector's color variant will appear on the market with the release of Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. Lite will debut on global markets already in September 2019.
