Panasonic finally allowed us to take a closer look at our TV offer for the current year. Key applications? The company focuses on OLED matrices, on handling all HDR formats and on ... lower image diagonals.

Panasonic has already repeatedly communicated its TV news for the current year, but in the end decided to meet us in Warsaw to talk about their products. Key conclusions from the meeting? Despite the knowledge from press releases, quite surprising.

First of all, the company is already completely giving up LCD panels in its high-end TV sets. The GZ950, GZ1000, GZ1500 and GZ2000 models will use OLED matrices, of which the latter will have a special type, modified after receiving from the subcontractor in the form of LG Display. In all of the models mentioned above, the image will be processed by a HCX Pro processor prepared together with Hollywood specialists. This is not a marketing slogan: Panasonic's relationship with the film industry is very strong.

All of these televisions will also offer Dolby Atmos audio decoding and will be managed by the My Home Screen 4.0 system, compatible with Alexa and the Google Assistant.

TVs GX800 and GX700 will use LCD matrices. Only the first one will contain the HCX processor, Dolby Vision and HDR10 + support and the My Home Screen 4.0 software. It is also worth noting that Panasonic will not introduce any new Full HD TV to the market - last year's models working in this resolution will remain on sale.

Image and sound are the most important in Panasonic TV sets for 2019. High diagonals are not so much.

Secondly, Panasonic does not intend to engage in the war on HDR standards anymore. So far, almost all producers have chosen only one of the proposed HDR10 successors, such as HDR10 + and Dolby Vision. All Panasonic TVs will be compatible with both formats, with one exception mentioned above.

Thirdly, the company does not intend to deal with TV sets with very high diagonals. We will not buy a premium class Panasonic TV with a screen size higher than 65 inches. For now, he does not intend to deal with the production of televisions working in 8K resolution.

We are waiting for the first tests. And, above all, prices on the Polish market.

To be sure, we have the actual image quality offered by the new Panasonic equipment. Until now, Viers have offered close-to-the-job performance parameters and I expect the same this year. It is, however, expectations, not a description of the actual state.

I'm also curious about the new interface introduced by My Home Screen 4.0. So far, I have considered this system to be one of the most readable and personalizable on the market - although unfortunately its popularity among developers is negligible. May it ever change.

The sound systems in the GZ1500 and GZ2000 models are definitely interesting - the latter has audio equipment from Technics, which in theory may even allow us to forget about the need to buy loudspeakers or soundbars. And no doubt I would like to explore what exactly the Panasonic modifications of the OLED matrix in the GZ2000 model relate to. I hope to get all this information soon.
