Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus are medium screens with 21: 9 screens. Will movie lovers love them?
Sony, unlike in previous years, did not present the new flagship smartphone model at the beginning of the year. Instead, he put on mid-shelf equipment, such as the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus.
If a few weeks ago someone told me that it is Sony that will show one of the most distinguished smartphones of MWC 2019 and that they will be middle-shelf devices, I would have killed him with laughter. This unbelievable vision, however, has come true and from all of this year's smartphones I've seen, Sony Xperia 10 and 10 Plus are the most interesting. Well, maybe outside Huawei Mate 20X.

This is primarily due to equipping them with screens with a 21: 9 aspect ratio. These displays make the new Sony smartphones so intriguing. On the one hand, they provide a large screen surface, while on the other, they make the smartphones very narrow and, hence, comfortable in everyday use.
Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus are very small!
When I first looked at the specification of the 6-inch Xperia 10, I had it as a standard smartphone. In turn, its 6.5-inch version of Plus in my imagination was really substantial. You can not even imagine how surprised I was when I took both equipment in my hand. The standard Xperia 10 turned out to be filigree, even drowning in a man's hand. In turn, the bigger Xperia 10 Plus was just ... a typical smartphone.
It's also worth adding that Sony finally regains its spirit. I was a moderate fan of the classic Xperia design, but I appreciated it when the Japanese withdrew from it. The introduction of a casing in the XZ2 model and the transfer of the fingerprint reader to the back of the device did not make the new equipment nicer. What's more: in this way they have ceased to be unique in any way.
Now the pattern has returned to a more angular design, and the finger scanner has returned to the side edge. When we add new screen proportions, it turns out that the new Xperia stand out among other smartphones, especially competitors from the middle price range. Only the powerful "airport" over the screen annoys me, but it is better than seen in over 1000 times notch in any form.
Do I need a 21: 9 screen?
Sony convinces that the 21: 9 display is the best solution available on the market. This arguments the construction of a cinema screen that has the same proportions. Some of you probably will recognize that after all you watch Netflix on your smartphone, so you do not need it. Here came the time for a small plot-twist: already 60 percent. content coming to this platform is created in the cinema format and are then cut to the proportion of our TV, smartphone or tablet. Surprised? I do.
This means that the 21: 9 display provides the most cinematic and natural experience of all. Especially in combination with high-quality transducers that provide high-quality sound both on wireless headphones and those with cable.
The 21: 9 display will also provide players with a larger field of view, which should directly translate into an advantage on the virtual battlefield. In addition, the higher screen allows better management of two applications. Simultaneously writing an email and watching YouTube has never been so convenient.
These are not smartphones for fans of the best value for money.
The weakest point of the new Sony smartphones is their specification. Both models have screens with FullHD resolution adjusted to the new proportions. They differ for almost everything else. The heart of the Xperia 10 (PLN 1499) is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor supported by 3 GB RAM and 64 GB of memory, which can be extended using microSD cards. The Xperia 10 Plus, priced at PLN 1899, is powered by a faster Snapdragon 636, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of expandable memory. Even the more expensive of the models has a specification known from devices costing PLN 1000, and not nearly twice as much, which many people can irritate.
I also have ambivalent feelings about the used batteries. Xperia 10 has cells with a capacity of 2870 mAh, while the Plus version has a 3000 mAh battery. Both support fast charging in the Power Delivery standard. On the one hand, these links seem ridiculously small for 6- and 6.5-inch smartphones. However, on the other hand, both devices are really small and such a reserve of energy may be enough for them. I can not unequivocally evaluate this element, so I will wait until the tests are possible.
It is impossible to complain about other elements, such as communication standards. There were none of them, including the possibility of using two SIM cards and paying using contactless technology. It is also worth paying attention to the presence of a headphone output and a charging port in the USB-C standard.
Is it worth buying Xperia 10 and 10 Plus?
I can not unambiguously answer this question. Analyzing only the price and specification of both equipment, one can come to the conclusion that they are extremely unprofitable. However, I do not want to judge them this way. They are specific smartphones, unique and outstanding. The unusual design and the use of a 21: 9 screen make the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus are interesting devices that can find many buyers, especially in subscription offers.
I admit that after a short adventure with them I would like to buy them myself. Will this feeling stay with me? I will check it after a few weeks of tests and see if the interesting form is actually more important than the specification.
