For some time, LG has not been able to make a flagship phone so that it does not stand out on any significant issue from the competition. Meanwhile, the G8 ThinQ model includes super-modern components and some very good ideas.

Who has been dreaming about the LG phone from the G line for the past few years? If we met live, I doubt I would see a forest of hands. The biggest advantage of the flagship line of classic phones from this manufacturer seemed to be only a very advantageous price-performance ratio. Of course, not soon after the premiere, but very cheap. And you know what? If I were to buy a expensive phone, I would definitely consider LG G8 ThinQ.

LG G8 ThinQ - a bunch of good ideas enclosed in a well-equipped phone.

At the beginning of something that I will have to check in practice to give an opinion about it. This is the sound system of the G8 phone. Have you noticed the lack of holes for speakers? Exactly. The G8 uses its OLED display as a membrane . I'm not sure how it plays , but it certainly makes the phone look more visually appealing.

G8 is also the first phone on the market equipped with a completely new biometric authentication mechanism using the blood vessel system in our hand. The Hand ID system uses a ToF and infrared sensor to analyze the shape, size and unique characteristics of the blood vessels of a person who has picked up the phone. This is probably a safer system than a fingerprint reader. To unlock the phone, just set a hand that you have previously registered for a fraction of a second before the front camera lens.

The mentioned infrared sensor was also used to increase the capabilities of the front camera.

The front camera is supposed to take portrait pictures on a completely new level. Its sensors analyze the infrared radiation reflected from the objects and on this base calculates the depth of the photographed scene. This method is said to be much faster and more accurate than traditional image sensors. Thanks to this solution, it is possible to control the depth during filming and Face Unlock face recognition.

Thanks to the ToF technique, the front camera sees objects spatially, and the distance is not affected by light from external sources. What's more, due to the depth analysis, you can not fool Face Unlock by setting a face photo in front of the lens.

In addition, this technique allowed for the implementation of yet another, very interesting promising function. The phone can be used to perform gestures over it - we can hand-pick and end phone calls, take screenshots or adjust the volume without touching the device. This can come in handy in a lot of different situations, for example when we have something hand-sanitized while working in the kitchen or driving a car.

Okay, what about those ordinary phone features? LG G8 ThinQ is amazingly well-equipped.

For the first time, the OL series displays an excellent contrast. It is a 6.1-inch FullVision QHD + unit with a diagonal of 6.1 inches and a pixel density of 564 ppi. The phone's sound system is compatible with the DTS: X format, and consists of, among others, 32-bit Quad DAC Hi-Fi DAC. The LG G8 ThinQ also supports the MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technique, which is designed to stream very high-quality sound.

The powerful Snapdragon 855 unit with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of memory, which can be extended with a microSD card, is responsible for the performance of the phone. The rear camera consists of three units: 16 MP with a wide-angle lens (F1,9 / 1,0 μm / 107 °), 12 MP with a standard lens (f / 1.5 / 1.4 μm / 78 °) and 12 MP with telephoto lens (f / 2.4 / 1.0 μm / 45˚). The front camera is an 8-megapixel unit with a standard lens (f / 1.7 / 1.22 μm / 80 °).

Attention! It is worth noting that in some markets the G8 will be sold only with a dual main camera - for now it is not known on which markets and which unit was dedicated.

The phone works under the control of Android Pie. Measures 151.9 x 71.8 x 8.4 mm and weighs 167 g. A decent working time on the battery is to provide a 3500 mAh battery. The whole is of course complemented by a USB-C connector.

I am surprised by this LG G8 ThinQ.

I did not expect too much from him. In the meantime, this device has almost everything that a modern phone user needs. 6 GB of RAM, despite appearances, should be enough, I have doubts at most as to the size of the battery. Well, I'm curious about the prices of this equipment.

Regardless of the above, the G8 is sold with the fastest Snapdragon on the market and with a great display. Probably also, what the technical data suggest, takes very good photos. Let's add an unusual and unique set of sensors at the front, thanks to which the equipment is safer and more comfortable, and the picture of the phone is born not only of a good but also well thought-out and innovative. Just like not the G line, for which LG definitely deserves credit.

But this is not the end. There is LG G8s ThinQ.

In a few months, an alternative version of G8 will appear on the market, with the letter s in the name. It will differ by a larger 0.1-inch display, though working only in FHD + resolution. The battery capacity will also vary slightly: 3350 mAh. It will be available in two versions: 64- and 128-gigabyte. We do not know any further details about him, at least for now.
