If work from 9 am is torture to you, science is on your side

A part of our society is biologically incompatible with the generally accepted standard of starting work at 9 am. Genetics should be guilty.

This is another study that proves that some people are unsuitable for getting up early . This type of research deals with chronobiology, or the science of natural biological cycles, such as seasons or the daily cycle. It has been regulated by generally accepted cultural patterns for years. In the morning, we have to go to work and already.

The chronotype will tell you the truth

One of the first people to learn that this pattern could argue with the chronotype in some people was Till Roenneberg from the University of Lugwig Maximillian in Munich. In his opinion, most people can be divided (in simplified terms) into three categories: those who like to wake up very early (5-6 in the morning), people who are more or less compatible with currently adopted norms (work from 9 is not a torture for them, but they do not go to sleep at 20) and those who like to get up very late and sit at night.

The maladjustment of its day to the chronotype, as research conducted by scientists from the US National Institute of Health has shown, can result in excessive fatigue, sleepiness and a tendency to overeat, to compensate for too early a wake-up call.

Waking up too early, you need to stress unnecessarily.

Another building block for research on the chronotype was added by a team of English scientists from the University of Birmingham, run by Elise Facer-Childs. A study published by the Sleep Research Society shows that our chronotype affects daily fluctuations in the production of melatonin and cortisol.

The level of these two hormones directly affects our well-being and, as a result, our productivity. The research conducted by Facer-Childs shows that people who wake up too early in relation to their chronotype are exposed to a higher level of stress, excessive fatigue and a significant reduction in overall productivity.

From research conducted on a group of 38 volunteers, it appears that people with a tendency to sit at night should start their day 3 to 4 hours later than the so-called. early birds. This means that the generally accepted work pattern from 9 to 17 reduces the productivity of a large part of society and some of us should appear in the workplace around ... 12:00 and go out after 20.

Well, unless someone wants to switch to getting up earlier

Can we change our chronotype? Yes, we can influence it. To a certain extent. That's what Roenneberg says. According to the researcher, frequent being outside in sunlight causes a gradual shift towards the earlier chronotype.

Of course, to do this, we have to get up before sunset ... which for some may turn out to be an extremely difficult art. Especially at this time of year.
