Not Apple, but Meizu made the first smartphone without connectors, sockets and buttons

I always thought that the first smartphone without any connectors in the housing would be the iPhone. Meanwhile, the Chinese take over the baton and show Meizu Zero - a smartphone without ports, sockets, buttons, or even holes for the loudspeaker.

In 2016, I was shooting that Apple would show the iPhone without any ports for wired communication . I wrote about it during the premiere of the iPhone 7, which for the first time ran out of jack. At the same time, there were rumors that the iPhone will receive wireless charging, which would allow the resignation of the port Lightning.

Apple in all its minimalism seemed to be an ideal candidate for creating a smartphone completely devoid of physical ports. Such a decision would have to have a wide impact in the world, but Apple has a lot of experience in this. Do you remember the cancellation of the CD drive in the MacBooks? Later, the same thing happened with the USB-A connector and the SD card slot. Apple has never been afraid of going out in front of minimalism, even if it did not always make sense.

Meanwhile, the first smartphone without ports debuted. It's Meizu Zero.

Meizu Zero is deprived of a jack socket (which is no extravagance today), but it also stands out by the lack of a USB port for charging and data transmission. The smartphone can be charged only wirelessly, using a fast charger with an output of 18 W. Data is sent only wirelessly.

It gets even more interesting. Meizu Zero has no card slot. We will not expand the memory by micro SD card, but at the same time we do not even have a SIM card slot! The device only uses a digital eSIM card .

It's still not everything. Meizu Zero does not have any physical buttons, because it has a touch sensitive frame, supported by the mEngine 2.0 vibration motor. The smartphone does not even have a loudspeaker opening, because the sound emits a screen surface.

So we do not have any openings in the casing, and the only protruding element is the islet that houses the lenses. All this translates into high water resistance, although the manufacturer claims that the smartphone complies only with the IP68 standard.

Meizu Zero will go to Poland, although the price is unknown.

The device is powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor. The capacity of internal memory and RAM is unknown. The smartphone has a 5.99 "AMOLED screen in which the fingerprint reader is placed.

On the front there are symmetrical frames reminiscent of the solution from the Samsung Galaxy S9, and the upper frame conceals the front camera with a resolution of 20 megapixels. In the back there will be a double camera in a 20 + 12 megapixel system. The housing is made of ceramics.

The Meizu project is incredibly brave and futuristic. All technologies appearing on the smartphone were already available on the market, but nobody has connected them in this way. At the moment, it is difficult to justify the abandonment of ports, because from a utilitarian point of view this is a handicap that does not bring any benefits. Nevertheless, the minimalism of this construction has something very attractive.
