The Philips OLED 805, 855 and 865 TV sets are marketed on the Polish market. They differ slightly in terms of equipment, and they are connected by the P5 image processor, the OLED matrix from LG Display and the unique Ambilight lighting system.

OLED or LCD (in particular QLED)? This dispute will last a long time, and the advantage of one technology over another is not so obvious. However, I prefer the perfect black of OLEDs over the brightness of cheaper and more durable LCDs. In addition, I love a certain festive accessory, Ambilight.

I'm not in good taste, but I don't care. Ambilight is a mechanism that illuminates the wall behind the TV in various ways - the coolest one is the synchronization of this lighting with the content displayed on the TV. The whole thing looks very effective and paradoxically does not distract from the screen, but enriches what we see in our peripheral vision. OLED and Ambilight so it is a perfect combination for me.

This is what Philips specializes in. Which is just introducing the latest generation of its Philips OLED TV line to Poland.

It is not a particularly important update, as I had the opportunity to report to you already during the international presentation of new products . OLED 805, 855 and 865 TVs inherit almost all the features of last year's OLED 8 × 4 line. So we can count on excellent OLED contrast and skilful processing of image parameters by the already recognized in the industry Philips P5 chip. We can always count on HDR10 +, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support.

The key novelty is the upgrade of the mentioned processor with image reconstruction algorithms based on artificial intelligence. This means that the new Philips TVs will very skillfully raise the resolution of HD content to Ultra HD. The engine analyzes and recognizes the content on the screen, applying additional sharpening, color enhancement, noise removal and so on, respectively. However, Philips approached the topic a bit differently than the competition.

The SI mechanism in Samsung or LG TVs works regardless of the selected operating mode (cinema, live, game, natural, etc.). Meanwhile, in the new Philips OLEDs, it is a separate operating mode, next to the others. So we can choose Cinema mode for image fidelity or AI mode if we want it to be (in theory) better than the original.

Unfortunately, the new devices lacked support for HDMI 2.1 (including eARC) HGiG (useful for HDR calibration in video games). It's a pity, because it is the season of buying new game consoles that will offer benefits in the form of new operating modes, adapted to the capabilities of HDMI 2.1. Fortunately, that also means the great 8 × 4 OLED line will be significantly cheaper. For someone who dreams of combining OLED with Ambilight, there was no better time to buy a TV for a long time.

Well, this is not the end of the news in Philips OLED 805, 855 and 865, although the others are quite small.

The new TV sets support the DTS Play-Fi technology with the possibility of creating a multiroom system. The brand also gave the TVs a significant visual facelift - a more elegant finish, a new shape of the base and an illuminated remote control covered with Muirhead leather obtained from sustainable sources.

The audio system has also been upgraded - for those of you who for some reason refuse to buy at least the cheapest (and still better than the built-in system of most TVs) soundbar. The 50 W audio system has (apparently) a better woofer, and the improved midrange and tweeters offer a clearer sound.
