Here comes the new iPad with slim bezels, 10.8-inch screen and a modern design

Among this year's new products from Apple we will see a new iPad model. It will look almost as good as the iPad Pro, but it will be much cheaper.

The premiere of new iPads will take place at any moment, because according to leaks, we will see new tablets on September 10. They will be shown without much fanfare and without conference. Apple is to send out press releases and update its website.

A previously unpublished diagram, in which we see one of the upcoming iPads, has just hit the network . It will be a model with a completely new diagonal in Apple's offer. The new iPad has a 10.8-inch screen, surrounded by thin bezels reminiscent of the Pro models.

Before we get into the news, let's take a look at the current line of iPads.

The iPad line is divided into four series. The current models are:

  • iPad mini 5th generation. It was presented in 2019, has a 7.9-inch screen, an old housing and a fast A12 Bionic processor.
  • iPad 7th generation. The basic and cheapest model. It premiered in September 2019. It has a 10.2-inch screen, an old housing, but with a Smart Connector, and a four-year-old A10 processor.
  • iPad Air 3rd generation. It premiered in March 2019. The size of the housing is the same as in the cheap iPad (not counting the thickness), but we find a larger screen with a diagonal of 10.5 inches and a faster A12 Bionic processor.
  • iPad Pro 4th generation. We have two models from March 2020 here. The smaller one is 11 "and the larger is 12.9". Both have modern housings, the best screens and the fastest components, including the A12Z Bionic processor.

So we have a fairly expensive, but fast iPad mini with an embarrassingly outdated housing. We have a cheap iPad 7, which also looks dated, but otherwise nothing to complain about. It works with Pencil, has a Smart Connector for connecting keyboards, and is still very fast. Another shelf is the aging iPad Air, which currently has little advantage over a cheap iPad, and its price seems too high in this context. There are two iPad Pro at the top which are the best in every way.

There are two possibilities for what the new 10.8-inch iPad could be.

Diagrams of the new iPad were published by 91Mobiles , and the editors say that we see a new, cheap iPad model in the graphics. It would be the eighth generation of the cheapest tablet on offer. If this is true, the new iPad Air would also have to wait for the housing to be refreshed, so as not to be left behind. Thus, all iPads - apart from the slightly neglected mini model - would have a modern look.

Personally, I don't believe such changes. Cheap iPad only in the last generation has its appearance and screen enlargement refreshed, and Apple does not like to change the housing after only one generation of equipment. Therefore, the second possibility sounds much more credible, i.e. that the diagrams show the new iPad Air.

I recently wrote about a leak showing the manual for the new iPad Air where we see thin bezels. Such a procedure would be more Apple-like: the middle model from the (Air) range would gain a housing modeled on the Pro model, but with a slightly smaller screen (10.8 versus 11 inches). In turn, the cheapest iPad 8 would keep the outdated housing.

For now, the biometric system is in doubt. Some leaks say that the iPad Air will be equipped with the Touch ID system located on the button on the side of the housing. This is a solution similar to that used in Xperia smartphones. Other leaks say that the new 10.8-inch iPad has the Face ID system known from the iPad Pro.

We will probably find out about all this on September 10, when Apple will show new tablets.
