There are LG TVs for 2020: tiny OLEDs, wall-mounted screens and an Xbox as a gift

LG is definitely not resting on its laurels. Both OLED TV line and NanoCell have many interesting news. Not only functional, but also aesthetic.

It would seem that modern TVs are slowly reaching the end of possible innovations. Just look at the specifications of last year's top models in terms of resolution, contrast or colors. We are following this year's conference of RTV equipment manufacturers with even greater interest ... and in many cases we are pleasantly surprised. However, it is possible.

Today LG has presented its proposals for the current year. As always, they are split into two OLED TV lines - i.e. top-class TVs with an organic matrix - and NanoCell TV with LCD matrices. Let's start with the first one.

LG OLED TV for 2020. A small TV for the bedroom, a beautiful super-thin wall and a lot of new features.

Let's start with the most impressive - at least from the visual side - the GX Gallery TV. It is just under two centimeters thick - and we are not talking about the display itself, but also counting the module with electronics. This one is hidden under the panel, thanks to which nothing protrudes from the back of the TV. So you can hang it on the wall like a picture - it looks very effective.

On the other hand, we have a 48-inch CX model. This is the first in the history of the company so small OLED TV, which is great for smaller rooms. We want to get all the benefits of an organic matrix with its excellent (and literally perfect) contrast at the forefront in, for example, a bedroom? We no longer have to buy a huge cow or compromise on LCD TVs.

The new OLEDs also contain numerous improvements dedicated to players. They offer input lag - i.e. the delay in the displayed image relative to what we click on the gamepad - at 13 ms. This is not an absolutely record result in the world of televisions, but the leader is already lacking in value within the limit of measurement error. HGiG mode has also appeared, which is to play a similar role in video games as in Dolby Vision and HDR10 + video materials - allowing for much more accurate control of image parameters as standard HDR10. OLED TV from LG also support the G-Sync and FreeSync standards and are equipped with HDMI 2.1 connectors with HFR, ALLM and VRR support. So they are fully ready for the new generation consoles, they will also work well with PC.

There was also the new generation of eARC support desired by home cinema owners on HDMI 2.1 connectors. OLED TV also supports the Filmmaker Mode, introduced by a significant part of TV producers and forced by filmmakers, in which all beautifiers affecting image fidelity with the original are turned off. In this mode, the movies look exactly as their creators wished, without artificial color enhancement or liquefaction. Dolby Vision IQ support has also been added, which differs from the standard Dolby Vision by taking into account ambient lighting conditions, modifying the image parameters accordingly. There was also Dolby Atmos decoding.

Is there anything new regarding utility functions? Indeed. It is even the Sport Alert function that allows you to display information about your favorite sports team. It is possible to select 20 teams from a list of 14 leagues, including the most important European football leagues or NBA. Notifications about the schedule of matches and the results of the match will appear on the screen in real time.

For the wealthiest of us, an 8K OLED TV will be available for purchase. LG OLED ZX Real 8K was one of the first to receive the right to label with the 8K Ultra HD logo, awarded by the CTA (Consumer Technology Association). They also support the relevant codecs used by VOD 8K services - although today it is only YouTube in Poland.

For pre-order LG OLED TV buyers, LG has prepared an attractive promotion. For selected LG OLED models from the 2020 line, an Xbox One X 1TB console with two controllers, Forza Horizon 4 and the addition of Lego Speed ​​Champions are attached. The promotion is valid from May 31 or while stocks last.

What is left for NanoCell TVs? In principle, the same - but used on LCD matrices.

Similar to OLED TV, also new NanoCell solutions developed for the current year have been sent to NanoCell. These include Dolby Vision IQ, Sport Alert and Filmmaker Mode support. They are also equipped with a sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness of the displayed image to the light intensity in the room, analogous to the Dolby Vision IQ standard. However, through the built-in Magic Remote microphone, the processor recognizes the room acoustics and viewer position to optimize the quality of the reproduced sound.

Anyone who buys this year's LG NanoCell TV model and registers a purchase on a dedicated website will receive vouchers for renting and watching 4K videos on Rakuten TV. The promotion will run from June 1 to August 14 this year. or until promotional sets are available.

OLED TVs, excluding the BX and NanoCell 8K models, use a new image processing processor.

The α 9 Gen 3 AI processor analyzes the transmitted signal to improve image and sound quality. Thanks to deep learning algorithms, it detects differences between faces, text and other elements, and then processes each element of the image, increasing its quality. The layout distinguishes content by dividing it into categories: standard, film, sport and animation. As an example, for the genre, the animation will reduce the blue light content to ensure children's eye comfort, and will clearly reproduce the characters' voices and enhance the sound effects. This function is optional and can be turned off.
