If half a year ago someone told me that a laptop for PLN 5,500 can be blown with performance by two or even three times more expensive devices, I would only laugh. After the test of the new Asus TUF Gaming A15 laptop, you can only laugh at the fact that such good equipment can be bought so cheaply.

It's faster than the Intel Core i7-8700K stationary on my desk. It's faster than my MacBook Pro 16 with Intel Core i9, which costs three times more. It's faster than almost any laptop for players with an Intel processor.

Inside the quite typical gaming enclosure Asus TUF Gaming A15 there is a new processor from AMD - Ryzen 7 4800H. And just as the third-generation Ryzen rocked the desktop market, so the fourth-generation Ryzen will usher in a tsunami in the laptop market.

Asus TUF Gaming A15 spins wheels around rivals.

For testing I got a copy of ASUS TUF Gaming A15 , equipped with the aforementioned AMD Ryzen 7 4800H processor (with integrated Radeon 7 graphics), 16 GB of RAM 3200 MHz DDR4, 1 TB of data space and a dedicated Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics chip.

The whole is complemented by a 15.6 "display with Full HD resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate. All this is enclosed in a structure with an aluminum cover, backlit keyboard and a typical "gejmerskie" touch.

Price? PLN 5499 For just PLN 100 more you will also be able to buy a specimen with the same specification but equipped with a more powerful battery - my test specimen had a 48 Whr battery, while the more expensive version has 90 Whr cells. In exchange for a larger battery, we give the possibility of expanding the laptop with an additional disk, which can be done in the variant with a smaller battery.

At a similar price, we can buy computers with the same graphics chip, but equipped either with AMD Ryzen 3 gen processors (which, to tell the truth, were not very successful) or Intel Core i7-9750H processors, which ... offer comparable gaming performance to the new Ryzen 7, but stand out significantly from it in other applications.

In the benchmark Geekbench 5 Ryzen 7 4800H achieves phenomenal results, both in terms of single- and multi-core measurements.

For comparison, this is the result of the MacBook Pro 16 with an Intel Core i9-9880H processor, which is cheaper than for 14 thousand. PLN we will not buy:

Ryzen 7 has an integrated graphics system Radeon 7, used when you do not need great computing power. His results in the synthetic test are, however, respected:

When you need real graphics power, Nvidia RTX 2060 comes into play.

If we stick to the native resolution of the display, this configuration will allow you to play absolutely any title with a fluency above 60 fps. But about that in a moment.

Synthetic tests are one thing, but practice is another. How does Ryzen 7 4800H cope with everyday work and play?

The programs that I use every day are primarily Adobe Creative Cloud and DaVinci Resolve.

Daily tasks include video editing in 4K and processing of RAW libraries from the Sony A7rIII camera, which weigh from 80 to 100 MB per photo.

In these applications the new Asus TUF Gaming A15 did fe-no-me-nal-no. I dare say that this is the best 4K video processing laptop you can get at this price. DaVinci Resolve works on it with perfect fluidity. I can't say the same for Adobe Premiere, but ... Adobe Premiere doesn't work with perfect fluidity on any computer. Here, its smoothness is satisfactory.

Features like stamp, content-aware fill or correction brush in Photoshop work in real time. Even the masking in Lightroom, which usually loads the processor terribly, here was without a trace of downtime.

As for games - Asus TUF Gaming A15 with Ryzen 7 4800H processor will please everyone. I played several titles on it, from the new CoD: Warzone, through Control and Gears 5, to Dirt Rally 2.0 and The Witcher 3. Even in the most dynamic scenes, at maximum or near maximum settings, I could not go below 60 fps -that. I usually saw a frame oscillating around 100 fps. Less demanding productions easily broke 144 fps in Full HD at high settings.

With great power ... great noise.

Laptops by gamers are by nature not among the quietest, most culturally working devices on the market. Fast components require a huge amount of air to move, which in turn generates a lot of noise. It is no different with the Asus TUF Gaming A15.

In demanding tasks, when the laptop is in Turbo or Performance mode, the fans get really loud. To the extent that I preferred to put on headphones rather than boost the loudspeakers to "shout" the device's cooling.

Fortunately, noisy fans do their job perfectly and the computer doesn't slow down under excessive heat. The work console also stays cool, only near the function keys and the upper part of the housing are noticeably warm. However, the hottest base of the laptop remains. I also recommend keeping it far away from the wall so that the masses of hot air blown through the openings in the housing have nowhere to escape.

Fortunately, the noise disappears when we use Asus TUF Gaming A15 for less demanding tasks.

When the laptop is plugged in, the fans are still audible, but they are not bothersome in any way. If we are looking for even more silence, we can switch the computer to Silent mode, which is also the default battery mode. In this mode the fans are still working, but they rotate so slowly that they can hardly be heard.

The less demanding tasks can also assess the energy efficiency of this computer. After the noisy announcements of AMD on the occasion of the premiere of new mobile systems, I expected not only the powerful power of Ryzen 7 4800H, but also better energy efficiency.

Here I admit that I was a bit disappointed. My test copy lasted a maximum of 4 hours away from the socket when using Microsoft Edge browser and watching video on Netfliks. On average, like most laptops for players. .

You just have to remember that we are talking about a copy with a 48 Whr battery. According to editorial tests, which received copies with 90 Whr links, the working time of Asus TUF Gaming A15 is more than twice as long. It is definitely worth paying extra money to enjoy greater mobility of the device.

We talked about power, we talked about the processor, but ... what is the Asus TUF Gaming A15 besides?

I intentionally left the laptop description to the end, because to tell the truth it's the least interesting part of the whole.

What gaming Asus is, everyone can see , one would like to say. Asus has accustomed us to high standards in its laptops for years, even those that do not cost a fortune. It is no different with the TUF Gaming A15 model.

If I were to briefly summarize the pros and cons of the device in the form of a list, apart from what I wrote above, it would look something like this.

On the plus side:

  • Stiff housing, aluminum flap, clearly gaming, but toned-down appearance
  • Construction meeting the MIL-STD-810H standard (high resistance to falls, moisture and extreme temperatures)
  • Great keyboard with RGB backlight
  • Very good trackpad (though without the physical buttons at the bottom)
  • A multitude of connectors (Ethernet, HDMI 2.0b, 2x USB-A 3.2 gen. 1, USB-C 3.2 gen. 2, USB-A 2.0)
  • Surprisingly good speakers and a great headphone jack
  • Possibility of independent RAM replacement and SSD expansion
  • Screen with 144 Hz refresh

On the downside:

  • The screen has very narrow viewing angles and not very good color reproduction
  • Very average webcam
  • No fingerprint reader or IR camera for Windows Hello
  • A huge amount of junk software, with McAfee at the forefront

Ryzen 7 4800H is a new deal in the world of laptops.

The processor used in the Asus TUF Gaming A15 laptop is not even the most powerful in the range of new, mobile AMD systems. Despite this, it outperforms the vast majority of Intel's mobile systems, losing only to the most powerful Intel Core i9-9880HK, which can be found in the costly (and UFO-like) gaming laptops of the DTR segment.

It's hard not to be impressed by the power of this processor. If it works so well in a mid-range gaming laptop, how well will it fit into the top models? I can't wait to see it.

Asus TUF Gaming A15 with AMD Ryzen 7 4800H processor means one thing: for the vast majority of players (and not only) buying a laptop more than 6000 PLN has completely lost its meaning.

Because if we can have a device with such great power, sufficient for intensive work and coping with absolutely every game in Full HD, then ... do you really need something more? After a few weeks of testing the Asus-AMD tandem, I know one thing: players will be delighted.
