The end of the era of cheap OnePlus. Here are OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro - we know Polish prices

Just as the era of cheap Xiaomi from the top shelf has ended, just before our eyes the era of cheap OnePlus ends. Here are OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.

From 699 to 999 dollars The new OnePlus eighth generation are in many ways better than their predecessors. They support 5G connectivity. Is it better enough to justify a huge price jump? It is hard to disagree with the opinion that in just six years OnePlus smartphones have changed from "flagship killers" to "wallet killers".

[Update - at the end of the text there are prices in PLN]

OnePlus 8 - specification

The smaller and cheaper of the new products will probably be the smartphone that most buyers will reach for. And although OnePlus 8 does not have a "Pro", it certainly cannot be denied "Pro" equipment.

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G
  • RAM: 8/12 GB LPDDR4X
  • Memory: 128/256 GB UFS 3.0
  • Screen: Fluid AMOLED, 6.55 ", 2400 x 1080 px, 90 Hz
  • Software: Android 10 with the Oxygen OS overlay
  • Main camera: 48 megapixels with wide angle lens, 16 megapixels with ultrawide lens, 2 megapixels with macro lens
  • Front camera: 16 Mpix
  • Battery: 4300 mAh with Warp 30T charging
  • Dimensions: 160.2 x 72.9 x 8.1 mm
  • Weight: 180 g

As you can see, even a lot is happening here on paper. Of interesting elements, it is worth adding that OnePlus 8 will still have a slider to change the profile of activity, similar to previous generations. Unfortunately, many people are not happy that we will not find a headphone connector there.

Instead, you'll find stereo speakers and a fingerprint reader under the display. Judging from previous OnePlus smartphones, we can expect that both elements will be quite decent. There was also NFC for contactless payments and quick pairing of accessories.

However, the specific arrangement of cameras is surprising. Instead of the zoom lens present in OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro, we have a macro lens placed in front of a matrix with modest resolutions of 2 Mpix.

Personally, I don't buy the phenomenon of macro pseudo-lenses on smartphones at all. They have nothing to do with real macro photography, where the key is not only to zoom in on the subject, but also to fill the frame with a 1: 1 object.

A similar set for "macro photography" was used by Xiaomi in the Mi 10 model . To put it mildly, it does not produce satisfactory results and I am afraid that it will be similar here.

OnePlus 8 Pro - specification

OnePlus 8 Pro

Bigger, more expensive and more "cool" OnePlus 8 Pro is trying to step on the imprint of the giants. This time the Chinese were not sticking - a good price has gone a long way, and the key distinguishing feature of the smartphone are its raw capabilities.

OnePlus 8 Pro also boasts the best smartphone screen ever, according to DisplayMate. He is distracted only by a small indentation on the front camera - a diameter of 3.8 mm.

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G
  • RAM: 8/12 GB LPDDR5
  • Memory: 128/256 GB UFS 3.0
  • Screen: Fluid AMOLED, 6.78 ", 3168 x 1440 px, 120 Hz
  • Software: Android 10 with the Oxygen OS overlay
  • Main camera: 48 megapixels with wide angle lens, 48 megapixels with ultrawide lens, 8 megapixels with telephoto lens, 5 megapixels with color filter
  • Front camera: 16 Mpix
  • Dimensions: 165.3 x 74.3 x 8.5 mm
  • Weight: 199 g
  • Battery: 4510 mAh with wireless charging

You can see that OnePlus doesn't take prisoners. The new OnePlus 8 Pro is waterproof and dustproof for the first time in the company's history, with the official IP68 standard. For the first time, we also have wireless charging and reverse charge charging, e.g. for charging wireless headphones.

Speaking of headphones, just like in OnePlus 8, also in the Pro model we will not find a headphone connector. Instead, we find a camera with a telephoto lens and three times hybrid zoom. The telephoto lens will also be equipped with optical image stabilization, while the main sensor with a wide-angle lens will stabilize the shot also with the help of electronic stabilization.

I am very curious if the combination of OIS and EIS will allow OnePlus to catch up with Samsung and Apple in terms of image stabilization in video recordings.

And I'm curious in general, whether the turbocharging of the top smartphone of the Chinese is enough to throw a glove for Apple and Samsung. The more that, unlike previous years, this year these companies are playing in the same price league.

OnePlus 8 - price

Prices in dollars given at the beginning of the text do not look so high, at least compared to the prices of other top-shelf smartphones. However, compared to previous OnePlusów, and especially when we include the price in zlotys, it gets really, really expensive.

Take a deep breath. OnePlusa 8 in Poland will be officially bought only in one place: in the x-kom.pl store . The prices are as follows:

  • OnePlus 8 8/128 GB in Onyx Black or Glacial Green: PLN 3299
  • OnePlus 8 12/256 GB in Glacial Green or Interstellar Glow: PLN 3,749

OnePlus 8 Pro - price

Obtaining IP certification, wireless charging, better camera, larger, faster screen ... it all had to be reflected in the price. I found it. OnePlusa 8 Pro can be bought in the x-kom.pl store at the following prices:

  • OnePlus 8 Pro 8/128 in Onyx Black: PLN 4,199
  • OnePlus 8 Pro 12/256 in Glacial Green or Ultramarine Blue: PLN 4,699

We can order both smartphones today. The official start of sales is scheduled for April 21, 2020.

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro - is it worth it?

I honestly admit that in the first impulse I want to shout " buy OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro while you can still get them". OnePlus 7T Pro currently costs as much as the cheapest version of OnePlus 8, and it is not inferior to its possibilities, I like it visually much more, and it also offers a telephoto lens, which OnePlus 8 lacked. OnePlus 7T also stands close to its successor, and is nearly 1000 PLN cheaper from it.

OnePlus has entered the muddy ground, just like Xiaomi with the Mi 10. The price increase must be justified by the quality of the product. And we'll find out about it only when OnePlus 8 gets to us for testing.

OnePlus 8 Pro will have an even more difficult task: to convince Samsung and Apple consumers that it is worth spending over PLN 4,000 on a smartphone - objectively speaking - a less prestigious brand.

The smartphone will soon come for testing and then I will be able to put it next to the iPhone 11 and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. And I feel something that despite the high price, OnePlus 8 Pro will come out of this fight unscathed.

OnePlus has proven over the years that a great smartphone does not have to cost a fortune.

On the one hand, it is a pity that the new models no longer support this thesis. On the other hand ... if OnePlus could make such fantastic phones at such affordable prices, how good was the phone they made at an affordable price?

I can't wait to see it for myself.

Entry being created ...
