The new Gran Turismo in 4K on PlayStation 5, in addition to 120 or 240 fps - it s not a dream, but the studio’s goal

Resolution or frames per second? This is a dilemma for many players playing with graphic settings sliders. On PlayStation 5 this problem is not expected to occur. At least in the new Gran Turismo. The goal of its producers is to provide both 4K resolution as well as 120 or 240 frames per second.

It has been said for a long time that the next Gran Turismo is to be one of the starting titles for PlayStation 5. It is not known, however, whether it is a completely new installment of the racing series, or the improved Gran Turismo Sport from 2017, enriched with a completely new content. It is known that the title will carry out a double task. The new Gran Turismo is intended to both encourage the purchase of the PS5 as an exclusive title, but also to serve as a benchmark for PlayStation 5.

It is the next Gran Turismo to show players the gap between PS4 and PS5.

Kazunori Yamauchi - creator of the Gran Turismo series and director of the Polyphony Digital studio - took part in a series of interviews with media representatives . The Japanese were asked about the future of the racing series, especially in the context of next-generation consoles and their greater performance. Yamauchi then admitted that in his opinion 4K resolution would be the most sufficient, but it is the frame rate that is crucial for him and this value should soar up.

As a producer of many titled racing games, Kazunori Yamauchi is pointing to frames per second as a key aspect of the game. The director of Polyphony Digital at least dreams of doubling the result achieved on PlayStation 4. There Gran Turismo Sport operates at 60 fps. On PlayStation 5, in turn, Yamauchi would like to race at a minimum of 120 fps, and preferably at as much as 240 frames per second. According to the Japanese, it is the number of frames that will radically affect the reception of the new generation of games.

I share this sentence. Frames per second> resolution.

When I am faced with the dilemma of choosing a new monitor, I will always sooner reach for a matrix with an image refresh rate of 120 or 144 Hz than for a screen with native 4K resolution. I prefer to have 90 or 120 frames per second in a video game than 3840 by 2160 pixels. This is my conscious choice, created after testing many monitors, laptops and gaming computers.

Sure, the image in UHD is sharp, clear and pleases the eye, but on a good QHD monitor we can still enjoy a clear message. On the other hand, playing with a higher frame is incomparably more enjoyable. Natural. Responsive. A return to 60 or 30 fps simply hurts in the world, although of course you can get used to this value after a while.

PlayStation 5 can do something that consoles have not offered for several decades: bring players back to the fun of playing over 30 frames per second. However, I doubt that 4K standard with high frame rate would be possible in every video game. Not on equipment for just over PLN 2,000 . However, if the PS5 allowed you to switch between UHD and 60 frames, QHD and 90 frames, and FHD and 120 frames, it would be a damn interesting choice.
