7: 0 for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Motorola Razr has no chance in a direct battle

It must be very quiet today at Motorola branches around the world. Their show of strength, their greatest innovation, a jewel in the crown ... has just been marginalized. Motorola Razr has no chance with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

How could it be ruined like that? Until now I wonder how Motorola could have spartoled the premiere of its most interesting product for years.

Let's sum up: Motorola Razr was first presented in the United States, in November 2019. Then it was presented again, this time in Europe, in December 2019. In Poland we saw it live in January 2020. It was only available for sale February 6, 2020

I was at the European premiere of Motorola Razr . I am constantly delighted with it, and regular readers know that it's one of my favorite brands in the world of mobile technologies.

Only while Motorola was dragging the start of sales of its most interesting equipment, Samsung managed to first draw attention from Razr, and then barely a week from Motorola's market debut to release into the world of Galaxy Z Flip - a device better in absolutely every respect.

Absolutely. Each. Respect.

Motorola Razr vs. Galaxy With Flip ? These phones have nothing in common.

I apologize for this analogy, but it's a bit like putting Dacia Duster next to the Mercedes GLC. Both have four wheels, a steering wheel and are in the SUV category. In addition, they have nothing in common because Mercedes plays in a completely different league.

It's similar here. In addition to the similar philosophy of screen folding and belonging to the family of smartphones, Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip are more divided than connected.

Let's look at key differences, starting from the screen.

Both screens fold, it's true. It's just that the screen is plastic in Motorola, peels, and it is made in pOLED technology. In Samsung we are dealing with a glass panel made in Dynamic AMOLED technology with a larger diagonal and higher resolution.

1: 0 for Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip components are a different league from Razr at all.

Motorola is powered by Snapdragon 710, supported by 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of data space and a 2510 mAh battery.

Samsung is powered by Snapdragon 855+, supported by 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of data space and a 3300 mAh battery.

2: 0 for Samsung.

Comparing cameras is bullying the weaker.

Motorola has one lonely 16 Mpix camera, alive removed from the two-year OnePlus 6 and an internal 5 Mpix camera.

Galaxy Z Flip has two 12 Mpix cameras (with wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lens) and a 10-megapixel internal camera taken out of the top Galaxy S.

3: 0 for Samsung.

We can only fold or unfold Motorola. In Samsung Galaxy Z Flip screen can be adjusted at any angle in the scope of hinge operation. This allows, for example, placing the phone and using it as a tripod, or using two applications at once when the screen is bent.

4: 0 for Samsung.

Motorola does not have a physical tray for the SIM card, but only the eSIM module, so it can be purchased only from operators supporting this standard. In Poland, at the moment we will buy it only in Orange.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has both an eSIM module and a Nano SIM card slot, and we can buy it anywhere and use it with any network.

5: 0 for Samsung.

Motorola Razr not only has a smaller battery - it also has more limited charging options, as it can only be done with a USB-C cable.

We charge Samsung Galaxy Z Flip with a fast wired charger, a fast wireless charger, and even share energy with another device, e.g. Galaxy Buds Plus headphones, thanks to the Wireless Power Share function.

6: 0 for Samsung.

As if all this was not enough, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is ... cheaper than Motorola Razr (which does not match the previous automotive comparison, but let it be).

Motorola Razr in Orange costs PLN 7299 . Samsung Galaxy Z Flip costs PLN 6600.

7: 0 for Samsung.

It's not even an uneven fight anymore. It's a knockout win.

Even if I don't know how I tried, I can't defend Motorola Razr in this battle.

And I tried very hard, you can believe me. Personally, I like the design of Motorola much more, perhaps partly because I feel from him a powerful call of nostalgia as a user of the original Motorola RAZR.

I also very much respect Motorola's concept of discouraging us from frequent use of a smartphone through software facilities. And that's right, Motorola's software will always be closer to me than Samsung's software (although here it is Z Flip that wins on paper, because it has Android 10).

However, I can not say that Motorola Razr was in any way better than Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

Who knows, maybe it will change yet. Maybe Motorola will revise its pricing policy? Maybe Galaxy Z Flip will have some structural problems?

However, putting the glass ball in my pocket - at the moment I don't see a shadow of a chance that Motorola could get out of this fight victoriously.

It is a shame that Motorola did not start selling Razra on the day of release, like Samsung with its Galaxy Z Flip.

Then we could say that Motorola was the first. Now, both devices are separated by such a small time window that Samsung Galaxy Z Flip not so much overshadowed Razr as it pushed him to the margins.
