Orange could start with 5G network all over Warsaw now, but doesn't see such a need to compete with Play. The orange telecom thinks that the fiber offered by him is enough for the moment.

Polish mobile operators have already started the race for the seat of the 5G segment leader in Poland. All four infrastructure operators are now testing the next generation of networks. PEM standards have been raised and we are now waiting for the auction of frequency bands that are necessary to implement real 5G on a massive scale.

The fact that the 5G auction has not yet taken place does not prevent telecoms from implementing further pilot programs.

5G tests are now being conducted in consultation with the Ministry of Digitization on frequencies that will be distributed during the auction, and we expect to implement them after July 2020. In addition, telecoms are preparing to launch the 5G network ... in the band used so far by LTE.

Plus recently announced that it plans to launch 5G in the 2600 MHz band in as many as seven cities. A similar approach to the case was Play, which last year boasted the 5G Ready network, and now forges it into 5G . As part of the pilot project, the new generation network in the 2100 MHz band will be implemented at 100 base stations in the Tri-City.

Orange, in turn, sees no reason to compete with Play today in the 5G segment based on frequencies used in the LTE network.

Orange telecom is currently testing new generation networks, including in Warsaw and Lublin in the 3400-3800 MHz band and is not planning commercial implementation of 5G on the band reserved until now for LTE. This was confirmed by Jean-Francois Fallacher, i.e. the president of Orange Polska, in a recent interview for the site Cyfrowa.rp.pl - although he admitted that his network could follow the path marked by the competition.

We have a 2100 MHz band and necessary network devices. We could run 5G throughout Warsaw at a speed of over 400 Mb / s. However, the market situation does not force us to do so and we have a different plan. We want to give Orange customers a "real" 5G, not a substitute for it. That's why we need the band we want to buy at auction - explains Jean-Francois Fallacher in an interview

When it comes to competition with Play in the Tri-City, Orange does not see the need to launch 5G at the moment. The President of Orange classifies the competitor's offer primarily as home internet, and Orange in this region reaches 48 percent. apartments and houses with their fiber optics. That is why the company believes that it does not have to hurry with the new generation of networks.

And what next with Huawe in the context of 5G?

Jean-Francois Fallacher referred not only to the issue of 5G development, but also to Huawei's participation in this area. It is too early to talk about exactly which group will become the supplier of new network devices for Orange Polska. Most likely it will be Ericsson or Nokia.

The chances that it will be a Chinese company are very small, although the President of Orange Polska pointed out that so far telecom had no objections to cooperation with Huawe in terms of security. Despite this, the telecom will adapt to the decisions of the Polish authorities in this respect.
