All signs in the sky and earth indicate that new iPhones will be equipped with a triple camera lens for the first time. Specifically, the three lenses will be in the successors of the iPhone XS and XS Max, and the successor of the cheaper iPhone XR will receive a double lens.

Such a set of lenses has been available for a long time in the world of Android and it is the most complete, the most universal set for mobile photography that you can create. Three lenses with different viewing angles are, in my opinion, the best thing that has ever happened to mobile cameras. No night mode or bokeh in portraits, in practice, give as much as three different camera angles.

Several times I wrote about the advantages of this solution in the context of Android smartphones, and now the same - at last! - it will also go to the iPhone. Just look at how various photos can be made with such a set.

Apple, however, is preparing a surprise in the software: Smart Frame.

Smart Frame looks like one of the most interesting features that will go to the iPhone XI. If we take a picture in this mode, the camera will simultaneously record the image from the basic and ultra-wide angle lens.

This will allow you to change the frame and also expand it after taking the picture. Imagine the situation: we are doing a group photo, but we accidentally cut one person. Smart Capture mode allows you to enable photo editing, after which we will be able to expand the frame. This is the inverse of digital zooming.

Photos from the ultra-wide lens recorded in Smart Capture will be stored for a while only, so as not to fill the memory of the device unnecessarily. It looks like a very useful solution.

A similar idea was used by Samsung in Galaxy S9 a year ago. The camera of this smartphone had the function of Dual Capture, in which he also recorded a wide photo from the basic lens in portrait mode. For unknown reasons, resigned from this feature in Galaxy S10.

Apple will take this feature to a new level because it will employ an ultra-wide angle lens. I am really curious how it will work in practice, and what impact it will have on the quality of the final photo.
