Sony RX0 II is more than just a sports cam. It has a tilting screen and records 4K movies internally, and the one-inch Zeiss sensor and lens is responsible for the quality of the pictures. There are really many changes compared to the predecessor.

Although the new RX0 II looks more like a typical sports camera than a compact camera, the manufacturer claims that it is primarily a camera. And it's the smallest and lightest ultra-compact premium camera in the world. The point is probably to emphasize that the RX0 II is more than just an ordinary sports webcam. And indeed it looks like it is a modern tool for various types of travelers, creators, but also vloggers. It is also the smallest and probably the most resistant camera for vlogging.

A small cube resistant to water, dust, falls and crushing.

The device measuring 59 × 40.5 × 35 mm has a weight of only 132 g and easily fits in the pocket. It is also resistant to water (up to 10 m deep), dust, impact (falling from a height of up to 2 m) and crushing (up to 200 kg). These are impressive possibilities that will certainly prove useful during travel or photography and recording in extreme conditions.

An interesting solution is to add a 180 ° upward and 90 ° downward LCD screen. This is a lot of improvement compared to the predecessor, but also a distinctive distinguishing from the competition. In this way, the Sony RX0 II will not only work as a small sports camera to attach to a helmet or in inaccessible places. RX0 II can be a device for recording vlogs or taking selfies.

The heart of the device is a 15.5-megapixel Exmor RS CMOS sensor. It's the same matrix as its predecessor, but it's supported by the very advanced BIONZ processor, which is supposed to provide better color reproduction, including skin tone. Sony RX0 II also uses the same lens as the previous one, namely Zeiss Tessar T * with 24 mm focal length and f / 4 aperture, which allows sharpening from 20 cm.

This set allows you to shoot at a sensitivity of ISO 80 - 12,800 and a minimum shutter speed of 1/32000 s. The shutter has been improved to ensure that any distortion will be eliminated. The speed of continuous shooting is up to 16 fps, however, note that focus and exposure are set to the first frame.

The producer also states that in comparison with the original RX0 model, the color reproduction has been improved: now the skin tones have to have a natural and vivid color, and the additional "smooth skin" effect masks small imperfections and wrinkles. A classification and protection function has also been introduced, as well as the option of displaying a series of images as groups.

4K 30p films and electronic image stabilization system.

Pictures of photos, but most users will probably use RX0 II for recording extreme situations. In this RX0 II should feel like a fish in water.

The device enables internal recording of 4K 30p films. Importantly, it reads all pixels of the matrix, not combining them into groups, so the amount of data recorded is 70%. greater than needed to record a 4K movie. This solution allows you to reduce the moire effect and jagged edges. By using the Sony Imaging Edge mobile application, you can upload videos to your smartphone and then edit and publish.

A new feature is the built-in electronic image stabilization system, which is to ensure high stability of recordings from the hand. Stability is also to increase further after sending the movie to a smartphone or tablet with the "Movie Edit add-on" application. The program uses and processes additional information recorded along with the film, which imitates the smoothness of the recording like a gimbal.

The application also allows "intelligent framing", which consists in keeping the selected object in the center of the frame and correcting the deformation in the final assembly. It all sounds very interesting, but I'm curious how these functions work in practice.

Sony RX0 II also offers a number of additional, but important functions that enrich its capabilities. We're talking about recording in the Super Slow Motion mode, at up to 1000 frames / sec, 4K signal reproduction without compression over the HDMI connection, as well as the use of flat image profiles and the S-Log2 curve, time code and user bits.

The new version of Sony Eye AF for better eye recognition.

Sony RX0 II has been equipped with a modernized version of the Sony Eye AF function, which is to facilitate portraits. The way it works, speed and accuracy has been improved. Now, just press the shutter release button halfway and the camera will focus on the subject's eye. The menu can be set to which the device should focus on the eye (eye left / right / automatic selection).

There was also an interval recording mode, and you can create stop-motion animations from the pictures taken in it. It sounds really good.

Sony RX0 II - price and availability.

The Sony RX0 II will go on sale in Europe in May 2019. The price in the United States will be around $ 698. It is not yet known how much the device will cost in Poland. His predecessor is valued at approximately PLN 3,100.
