Despite the identical main lens, the more expensive iPhone has a much better result than the XR model.

In iPhones, an additional lens has a marginal impact on the quality of standard photos, but it extends the capabilities of the camera in an amazing way. DXO testers emphasize that the extra lens works better for zooming, and many users use this feature on their smartphone, often without being aware that digital zoom makes the picture worse.

In addition, the double lens gives better results in the portrait. The obvious advantage is more accurate recognition of subsequent plans and smoother blurring of the background, without the effect of artificially cutting the photographed person from the background.

An even more important advantage is the lack of distortion.

There is a reason why portrait lenses have a longer focal length. If we take a picture with a wide-angle lens approaching the subject's face, we will disturb the proportions and features of the face. The nose will grow bigger and your ears will go away. The face will look slimmer, but it's just an illusion on the borderline of caricature.
