Larry Page is the ninth richest person in the world. No wonder: the world of commerce, and indeed the entire Internet has changed its algorithm called PageRank, which is also the foundation of Google's success.

Larry Page is from East Lansing, Michigan. He was born on March 26, 1973. He comes from a family completely absorbed in computers. His father Carl is one of the pioneers in information technology and the development of artificial intelligence. Gloria's mother taught programming at Lyman Briggs High School and Michigan State University.

So, he grew up in a home filled with computers, electronics and industry publications in the form of books or magazines. He was the only student in primary school who brought school essays printed from a text editor. Although, as he claims, the greatest inspiration to follow in the footsteps of his parents turned out to be music. Page eagerly learned it, of which he was sensitive to the proper mixing of all the elements. As he suggests, this was the main motivation for the IT services he created to give users results in the blink of an eye.

Larry Page has a bachelor's degree in computer science at the University of Michigan and a master's degree in a similar field at Stanford University. At the second university he also began doctoral studies. As part of his diploma thesis, he considered studying the topics of telepresence and autonomous vehicles, but ultimately - at the instigator's urging - Page decided to explore the mathematical properties of the Web.

He focused his attention on the research which websites link to the analyzed one, considering that such information is also valuable information about it. With time, Sergey Brin, who also did his doctorate at Stanford, started helping him. Their joint work was presented to the university under the title The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine. Today, the most-downloaded scientific work in the history of the Internet.

This is one of those diploma theses that actually changed something.

Page and Brin quickly understood the importance of their work. An internet search engine that would take into account the measure of the significance of a given website over other similar topics, measured in the number of links leading to it, would be unrivaled. Both men started work on PageRank, and so an algorithm using the above conclusions, which is to be the foundation of the new search engine.

The room in Page's dormitory was transformed into a laboratory where the first servers for the search engine were built from the rotation and from which the university network was connected to ensure its connection with the world. The room in the Brina dormitory has become an office and a programming center. PageRank started working, which ... quickly led to an overload of the entire network, due to the huge amount of information to be scanned.

The search engine, however, began to become popular. Mainly Stanford students who knew about her.

The university, however, turned a blind eye to the problems posed by both doctoral students. It allowed them even to share their work outside the university network - each of the Internet users could test BackRub - because that's how it was called this searchlight.

BackRub was written in Java and Python. His servers used Pentium, Linux and Sun's database. In the second half of 1998, BackRub recorded 10,000 queries a day. Then Page and Brin finally understood that they had created a potentially great service. In the same year he founded a company, Google - the name was inspired by the number googol (10 ^100), symbolizing the enormity of content indexed by the search engine. Google became the chief executive of Page, president of Brin.

The style of Larry Page's rule was quite original.

For example, in 2001 Page decided to release all project managers on Google. He decided that it would be better for Google engineers to answer the vice president of engineering, who would then be responsible to him. As he explained, he did not like that technical people supervise people without appropriate knowledge. He also hates bureaucracy.

He was also absolutely crazy about the speed of service. His co-workers mention that he was able to make a big fuss about the delay in the search engine operation reaching milliseconds. Everyone - from people working on the search engine to those who look after data centers - was supposed to think first of all about eliminating delays.

This style had to end. For a while.

Investors forced it. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Sequoia Capital have agreed to donate $ 50 million to Google's development, but they demanded a change of leadership for such a more experienced one. Page listened humbly, taking the position of Product Director, and handing over his job to former Chief Novell - Eric Schmidt.

Schmidt, however, consulted with Page and Brin in every important business decision. Employees also perceived Page - not Schmidt - as the right boss . This Page, not Schmidt, approved Google's debut on the stock exchange. And that's why he became a billionaire - at the age of just 30 years.

Page also led to the acquisition of the Android system in 2005 for $ 50 million, which was not even reported by Schmidt. This, however, apparently did not resent trauma, he considered this purchase as minor and insignificant. Today Android is the most popular operating platform on the market.

In January 2011, Google announced that Larry Page would return to the position of Chief Executive, while Schmidt would take the role of the President of the Board. His first task was to change the work culture in Google: the heads of the most important departments in the company gained greater autonomy, and introduced a culture of cooperation and intolerance to quarrels. Special privileges have been granted to the heads of YouTube, AdWords and Google Search.

He also decided to close a large part of products and services that are growing like mushrooms after rain - in total, 70 of them disappeared from the company's offer. He also ordered a thorough redesign of the rest, so that it would constitute a functional and aesthetic whole. He also decided to respond to the growing market position of Facebook by launching the Google+ social network and to buy Motorola Mobility for $ 12.5 billion, mainly to take over the rights to its patents and be able to protect itself against lawsuits from Apple and Microsoft. He also introduced the first Google desktop operating system: Chrome OS.

On August 10, 2015, Larry Page wrote on the official Google blog that he was giving up his post. However, only to become the general manager of Alphabet, appointing Sundar Pichaia as his successor. Alphabet has become the owner of Google, as well as many other Google-funded, smaller companies dealing in the development of robotics and biotechnology. Since then, one could say, hearing about him is lost. Larry Page has since not appeared at any meeting with investors and at any press conference. He is married, has two children. They live in Palo Alto in a huge ecodome, designed to have minimal impact on the environment. It is built of renewable materials and powered by solar energy. It also owns a 59-meter super suite, equipped with a helicopter landing pad, a gym and 10 luxury cabins.

He is a secretive man, who respects his privacy and his attention forever. For now, however, PageRank remains its greatest achievement. Maybe it's a technology that does not completely change the world in the direction it's always dreaming about. No doubt, however, it has changed the whole world - and definitely for the better.
