How Sennheiser is headphones sound for 10,000 zÅ? At the Audio Video Show you can see for yourself
Sennheiser calls this model its new king. HD820 is equipment designed for audiophiles. Nobody else will spend 10 thousand. PLN for headphones. Being at the Audio Video Show , I managed to spend a few minutes with them.
Earphones of this class usually have an open construction. Sennheiser, however, decided to surprise everyone by creating a closed model based on the known and liked HD800S. In HD820, we find the same drivers with Helmholtz resonators, a similar look and the same headband adjustment system. This does not mean that both models are identical.
A construction that makes an impression
In HD820, we will not find standard attenuation cans. They have been replaced by concave plates made of Gorilla Glass, from which reflected waves of sound go straight to the listening room. This is to ensure above all a better quality of the music being played, but it also has a positive effect on the design of the headphones.
Putting them on my head I was surprised that they are so light. It is true that the data provided by the manufacturer shows that this is only an impression, because the design weighs 360 g, but this weight is spreading well enough that I could swear that I tested some slimmed down by at least 100 g version. HD820 also have a huge earmuffs, which can not be attached in any way. The ears are in them without any problem and I suspect that even after a longer, several-hour session, I would not feel any discomfort.
Sennheiser HD820 - how does it sound?
Treat this opinion as first impressions. After 10 minutes of listening to a completely unknown album, I prefer not to make too bold reviews. The first thing that throws in the ears is their selectivity. Without excessive focusing, a person is able to focus on individual instruments on the recording. Quite good, considering that I listened to them at the fair, where there is a terrible noise.
As for the quality itself, I dare to write only that high and medium tones sounded, just as it always seemed to me that they should. As for the sound of bass instruments, I ... I do not think I really like their implementation in jazz music that accompanied my listening. The bass seemed too flat and devoid of that warm pit that I adore. But as I say - it's more the disc's fault and my personal preferences than the headphones themselves.
It is a pity that I could not spend more time with them and test them on recordings that I know and know how they sound on other models. Well, that's the charm of the fair. Nevertheless, I strongly urge you to visit Sennheiser's stand at the PGE National Park, where you can see for yourself whether your headphones for 10,000. PLN are indeed worth the price.
