WhatsApp is rolling out a new update through the Google Play Beta program, raising the app version to 2.22.8.11. What's new in this update? WhatsApp is releasing new options for picking phone numbers in chat bubbles.
After releasing the ability to share media files up to 2GB in size for some beta testers in Argentina and new voice memo tools, WhatsApp is now releasing another new feature that allows you to use some keyboard shortcuts when selecting phone numbers in chat bubbles can use.
In previous updates, interacting with a phone number in a chat bubble would take you straight to the default dialer app, but the new beta is a little different.
A new menu will now appear. In this case, WhatsApp checks whether the phone number is available on WhatsApp, i.e. whether the contact has a WhatsApp account. If the phone number is available on WhatsApp, you can immediately start a new chat thread with the contact.
There is also an option to call the contact using the default dialer app and quickly add the contact to the address book. These two options will always appear if the phone number is not in WhatsApp.
