News broke last month that the upcoming Vivo X80 Pro will come with Sony's IMX8 sensor for its main camera. The sensor should probably be called IMX866. It has now emerged that Sony has another camera sensor in development, which could be the IMX989.

According to DigitalChatStation, Sony is developing an upcoming 50MP sensor in the IMX9 series that could be called the IMX989. The tipster adds that this sensor is almost 1 inch tall.

The upcoming IMX9 sensor is said to appear first in the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra. But so far there are no official reports about the release of the device.

Previous rumors about the device are that it will come with a 6.73″ 2K 120Hz E5 AMOLED display supporting LTPO 2.0 technology. It is rumored to launch towards the end of Q2 2022.
