Smartwatch rethought: Google has crazy plans
Google has patented a special smartwatch technology. The operation should take place directly via the skin of the wearer - buttons or touchscreens can almost be dispensed with. We may already see the technology in the first Pixel Watch.
Google: Control your smartwatch with your skin
Google has patented a special technology for recognizing pressure and swipe gestures at the World Intellectual Property Office. Rather than tapping a touchscreen or struggling with a bezel, control is through the owner's skin . Google imagines that the skin areas on the left and right of the smartwatch are monitored for touches (source: LetsGoDigital).
According to Google, gesture control via a so-called "skin interface" can not only offer advantages for smartwatches . In the patent, the group also names TWS headphones, where a touch on the head can be used, among other things, to adjust the volume or pause the music. Various sensors and an accelerometer detect the movement and determine the type of gesture. According to Google, unintentional gestures can be filtered out using machine learning technology.
Google will apparently offer skin control as an additional option . Smartwatches will therefore continue to be equipped with a touchscreen, while mini headphones can still be controlled by tapping in the future.
Before you buy a smartwatch, you should consider a few things:
Pixel Watch: Google's Smartwatch with "Skin Interface"?
It is currently still unclear whether Google is already equipping its Pixel Watch with the special control. Google could use the technology to differentiate itself from the competition . A presentation of Google's first smartwatch is currently expected in May 2022. Along with the Pixel 6a, the watch could be officially revealed for the first time on May 26th. The Pixel Watch can already be seen in a first picture.
