Samsung has confirmed that it was hacked in the past week. Internal company data and the source code for the Galaxy smartphone software were stolen. The company assures that no personal data (neither from employees nor from customers) has become known and that measures have been taken to prevent further violations.
Samsung has not identified the culprits, but it appears they are LAPSUS$, the same hacker group that stole proprietary information from Nvidia last week.
A 190GB torrent was posted on the group's Telegram channel on Friday that allegedly contains the source code for the bootloader and biometric authentication systems of the Galaxy devices.
"There was a security breach related to certain internal company data. According to our initial analysis, the breach affects some source codes related to the operation of Galaxy devices, but not personal data of our customers or employees. At this time we do not expect any impact on our business or our customers. We have taken measures to prevent further such incidents and will continue to serve our customers without interruption"
