Samsung artificially limits the performance of 10,000 apps
Samsung has been found to be throttling the performance of over 10,000 apps - a list that includes system apps, Google apps, and numerous third-party apps. The company says this is to ensure consumer safety.
The limits are imposed by the Game Optimizing Service (GOS), which aims to prevent overheating and throttling issues by optimizing system performance. However, as Twitter user @GaryeonHan found out, the service's scope goes well beyond games and extends to apps as well.
GOS has been found to limit performance even when the device's temperature is within a reasonable range. And as if that wasn't enough, the service is also gentle with benchmarking apps like Geekbench and omits them from the throttling list. This is a clear indication of scams, as results from such apps are not representative of actual experience.
In short: As long as the GOS is used in its current form, users will not get the service they paid for. If you are one of those customers who own a brand new Galaxy S22 model, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1/Exynos 2200 under the hood may not perform at its maximum.
