OSOM OV1: Essential-Phone successor is to be released in Q4/2022
The OSOM OV1 is still on the way. OSIOM revealed some key details this week, such as: B. the processor, the choice of materials for the hardware, the estimated delivery date and the importance given to the camera system, which was one of the main problems of the original Essential phone.
In a partial reveal of the specs, OSOM shared that the OV1 phone will feature a Snapdragon 8-series chipset. We don't know exactly which one, but that could be the current 8 Gen 1, or possibly another variant that Qualcomm hasn't unveiled yet. In any case, that's good news, even if it now means a timeline for fourth-quarter delivery. The switch to the Snapdragon 8 series has apparently delayed the phone until Q4 2022.
As for materials, OSOM plans to use stainless steel and titanium cases and a zirconia back with polished white and matte black finishes. There could/should be other color options.
As for the other specs, expect a larger display this time. OSOM didn't say how big, but they think a larger body means a better user experience, antenna performance, and battery life. There will be a larger battery that will provide more than a full day of power with "regular use". Rounding out the specs are a UWB antenna, dual SIM functionality, Corning Victus glass covers, and a secure data cable (this phone is designed for privacy) that cuts off data access to the phone and only allows charging instead.
OSOM know that the Essential phone had a terrible camera system, so they planned a dual camera system with 48MP and 12MP sensors and a 16MP selfie camera for the OV1. OSM says that "unlike Essential" they have enlisted the help of the best teams in the world to bring users a true flagship camera experience.
To recap, the OSOM OV1 is coming, albeit only in the fourth quarter of this year, with a Snapdragon 8-series chip and a camera that's said to be "really" on par with other flagships. And the phone is said to cost under $1,000.
