OnePlus makes a big step backwards: smartphone users full of joy

Many OnePlus users should like that: Contrary to what was previously planned, OxygenOS should now be retained. The planned merger with ColorOS of the new owner Oppo is off the table. However, there is cooperation in order to be able to charge batteries faster.

OnePlus: OxygenOS remains as an Android overlay

After the takeover of OnePlus by Oppo, it was said until recently that the two Android-based user interfaces of the manufacturers should be merged. But surprisingly nothing comes of it. Instead, OxygenOS and ColorOS will continue to be developed separately . OxygenOS is to be retained as an "Android-like variant for the global market".

In a lengthy post, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau explains that both systems will continue to operate on the same code base introduced with OxygenOS 12. The original plan, announced in September 2021, envisaged a more or less new operating system. It should be introduced with the global release of the OnePlus 10 Pro. Instead, OxygenOS 12.1 (Android 12) is used. The cell phone will be available in Europe from the end of March.

According to Lau, the OnePlus community wanted OxygenOS to continue : "We understand that OxygenOS and ColorOS users want each operating system to remain separate with its own distinct characteristics" (Source: OnePlus Forum) .

OnePlus acquires SuperVOOC from Oppo

Oppo wants to share its SuperVOOC charging technology with OnePlus. Higher-priced smartphones that will come onto the market from the second quarter of 2022 should be able to be charged with up to 150 watts .
