New MacBooks: Apple is making us wait that long

There was a new Mac at the last Apple event, but it's not mobile. On the other hand, if you were waiting for new MacBooks, you got nothing. But how long will it be before Apple finally shows us new laptops? An updated schedule is now coming to light.

In the end Apple just got the Mac Studio and the new Apple Studio Display out of the quiver, contrary to some predictions there were no new MacBooks to be seen. But when will there finally be new notebooks from Apple? A rough answer is now given by Mark Gurman – insider and Bloomberg reporter (source: Power-on newsletter).

MacBook Air and Pro: When will Apple release new laptops?

MacBook Air: Originally, the beginning of the year or spring was in the room for the new MacBook Air. Now Gurman is correcting his statements and making them more concrete. We can and should expect that in the second half of the year. Ming-Chi Kuo had recently formulated it even more precisely, according to his statements, this could be expected in September .

We can then expect a completely new design, the ominous M2 chip from Apple and of course the MagSafe connection, which is already known from the new Pro models.

We can already count on a new design for the MacBook Air:

MacBook Pro: New variants and models of the 14 and 16-inch versions that were only presented in autumn 2022 will no longer be available in 2022 . They will most likely be powered by M2 Pro and M2 Max chips one way or another, but Apple doesn't want to show them until 2023.

However, Apple will present us with an update of the 13-inch model before the end of this year. According to reports, only the chip changes – M2 instead of M1. The rest remains more or less a MacBook Pro SE - new wine in old bottles. When is the model coming? There is no information about this. It was originally supposed to be shown in the spring. Ergo: Apple will either present the new MacBook Pro of the old design at the same time as the MacBook Air, or maybe even before that .

The professional laptops won't be back until 2023:

In future: change every two years

If all of this is correct, then Apple will probably be using a two-year update cycle for the MacBooks with immediate effect, with consumer and professional models always alternating with regard to the processor:

2020 - Apple M1: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro (13-inch) 2021 - Apple M1 Pro, M1 Max; MacBook Pro (14, 16-inch) 2022 - Apple M2: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro (13-inch) 2023 - Apple M2 Pro, M2 Max: M1 Pro, M1 Max; MacBook Pro (14, 16 inch)

The rumor that the MacBook Pro with a 13-inch display might just be called MacBook in the future would also fit in with this, after all it lacks the necessary Pro chips.
