Mobile phones up to 300 euros: 5 mobile phones from Samsung to OnePlus in the test

Mobile phones up to 300 euros: 5 mobile phones from Samsung to OnePlus in the test

Smartphones from brands such as Samsung and Xiaomi are impressive for less than 300 euros. With their models, the manufacturers ensure a decent selection in this price range. In our xiaomist overview, we show you which smartphones are really worthwhile.

5G, wireless charging, NFC - such features are no longer only found in the upper price range. Because there are already Android smartphones in the range under 300 euros that cover all everyday needs in terms of performance, often even more. Of course you still have to make compromises, for example in camera quality, gaming performance and display. But here, too, the cheaper models are catching up with the upper class. You can find our recommendations in our overview.

Smartphones up to 300 euros: everything at a glance

Xiaomi Poco F3: Our premium tip (283 euros at Amazon)

The Xiaomi Poco F3 offers a lot of performance for little money and is the most powerful smartphone in our selection.

Samsung Galaxy A22 5G: Our price tip (190 euros at Saturn)

If you want to remain loyal to Samsung, you can get a 5G cell phone with the Samsung Galaxy A22 for less than 200 euros.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S: The endurance runner (230 euros at Saturn)

Although the Redmi Note 10S does not have 5G technology, it surprises with its strong battery and robust design.

Realme GT Master Edition: For chic photos (260 euros at Otto)

The Realme GT Master Edition has a strong interior and convinces with its photo quality.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G: Perfect for everyday use (300 euros at Amazon)

The OnePlus Nord CE cuts a good figure for 300 euros and is particularly suitable as an everyday cell phone.

Xiaomi Poco F3: a lot of performance for little money

Advantages:

Fast processor Color-intensive AMOLED display 5G mobile communications Strong battery

Disadvantage:

No IP certification No jack connection Memory cannot be expanded

With the Poco F3, Xiaomi shows that a strong inner workings does not have to be expensive . The Poco F3 packs a lot of power for less than 300 euros (view it at Amazon): The system on a chip (SoC) from Qualcomm, together with the main memory, ensures a lot of performance, so that the smartphone from Xiaomi not only masters everyday tasks without any problems, but also endure one or the other game.

According to Stiftung Warentest, the battery lasts up to 40 hours and is fully charged within an hour - you can't complain about that. Another plus point is the display: The Poco F3 impresses with an AMOLED display in Full HD+ resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels). You can expect a high-contrast display, which was even rated "very good" by Stiftung Warentest. Another highlight is the refresh rate of 120 Hz, which ensures smooth performance.

When it comes to camera performance, however, the Poco F3 has its weaknesses, much like the Samsung Galaxy A22 in our list. Images in daylight should still succeed. In addition, you have to do without a jack connection and a memory card slot with the Xiaomi.

Operating system MIUI 12 (based on Android 12) Display 6.67 inch AMOLED 2,400 x 1,080 pixels FHD+ 120 Hz SoC Snapdragon 870 RAM 6 to 8 GB Internal memory 128 to 256 GB Camera 20 MP Front camera 48 MP Main camera 8 MP Ultra wide angle 5 MP Macro lens Battery 4,520 mAh (quick charge, wired) Special features Fingerprint sensor and face recognition NFC support

Samsung Galaxy A22 5G: future-proof thanks to 5G

Advantages:

5G mobile communications Sharp display despite the LC display

Disadvantage:

Low camera quality No IP certification

Even Samsung fans don't have to do without smartphones from the South Korean market leader for less than 300 euros. While the Galaxy A22 5G (see Saturn) doesn't boast an AMOLED display like the Xiaomi above, it does have a crisp FHD+ display , which the Galaxy A32 5G lacked in our review. In addition, thanks to the 90 Hz refresh rate, animations look nice and fluid, especially in direct comparison with conventional cell phone screens (usually only 60 Hz).

Despite the eight-core processor, we don't get a gaming smartphone with the Samsung, but it is completely sufficient for everyday applications. Rather, we have to make some compromises in terms of camera performance - at Stiftung Warentest it is only enough for a satisfactory grade. However, the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G shines with a long battery life and features such as NFC. The eponymous support for 5G connections rounds off the phone and makes it future-proof.

Android 11 operating system Display 6.5-inch LCD 1,080 x 2,408 90 Hz SoC MediaTek Dimensity 700 RAM 4 GB Internal memory 64 to 128 GB (expandable) Camera 8 MP front camera 48 MP main camera 5 MP ultra wide-angle 2 MP macro lens Battery 5,000 mAh (Fast charging function, wired) Special features Jack connection Fingerprint sensor and face recognition Triple slot NFC support

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S: Robust without 5G

Advantages:

AMOLED display Superior battery performance IP53 certification

Disadvantage:

No 5G cellular

While many competing devices in this price range still use LC-based displays, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S has an AMOLED display with Full HD resolution - a major advantage in terms of image quality. Thanks to the fast MediaTek SoC and 6 GB of RAM, the smartphone should be sufficient for everyday use and gaming (with adjusted settings). Some special features are also the IP53 certification (protection against dust and water spray), unlocking via fingerprint and NFC support.

When it comes to battery performance, the Android smartphone is really unbeatable: According to Stiftung Warentest, it runs for 53 hours with normal use, which is why a rating of 1.0 is more than justified. So if you are looking for a long-distance runner, you should get the Redmi Note 10S for just under 230 euros (see Saturn).

Operating system MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 Display 6.43 inch AMOLED 2,400 x 1,080 pixels 60 Hz SoC MediaTek Helio G95 RAM 6 GB Internal memory 64 to 128 GB (expandable) Camera 13 MP front camera 64 MP wide angle 8 MP ultra wide angle 2 MP macro -Lens 2 MP depth sensor Battery 5,000 mAh (quick charge function, wired) Special features Jack connection Fingerprint sensor and face recognition Triple slot NFC support IP53 (protection against dust and spray water)

Realme GT Master Edition: great features at a great price

Advantages:

AMOLED display with 120Hz 5G cellular High camera quality

Disadvantage:

No expandable storage No IP certification

Admittedly, "GT Master Edition" sounds more like a sports car than a smartphone. In fact, the Realme cell phone brings many highlights. The AMOLED display impresses with a high-contrast and color-intensive image and a refresh rate of 120 Hz , which ensures smooth animations. In addition, the cell phone has 5G mobile technology and the front and main cameras are also convincing, at least on paper. The battery and performance data ensure long runtimes, but thanks to the quick-charging technology, you can also refuel quickly with a cable: The charger supplied fully charges the empty smartphone in just over half an hour.

The processor is a downer: Although the Snapdragon 778G is a good eight-core processor from Qualcomm, it cannot keep up with the Snapdragon 888 5G of the more expensive sister model, which also turns the Realme GT into a good gaming smartphone. You also have to do without wireless charging and expandable memory - if you want to take a lot of data with you, you should go for the slightly more expensive model with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB internal memory.

Do you often obtain information directly from test institutions such as Stiftung Warentest and Co.? Then in this video we have some points that you should pay attention to in the future:

According to our test, the regular Realme GT is also a very cheap smartphone for its performance data, currently costs around 380 euros (view on Amazon). The cheaper Master Edition of the Realme GT is a good compromise with upper mid-range specs but some high-end features, notably 5G connectivity and a top-of-the-line display. Anyone who uses their smartphone primarily in everyday life and has no gaming ambitions will get a really successful smartphone for less than 300 euros (see Otto).

Operating system realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 Display 6.43 inch Super AMOLED 2,400 × 1,080 pixels 120 Hz SoC Snapdragon 778G 5G RAM 6 to 8 GB Internal memory 128 to 256 GB ( not expandable) Camera 32 MP front camera 64 MP main camera 8 MP ultra wide angle 2 MP macro lens Battery 4,300 mAh (quick charge function, wired) Special features Jack connection Fingerprint sensor and face recognition NFC support

OnePlus Nord CE 5G

Advantages:

Strong battery Color-intensive display Jack connection available

Disadvantage:

Mediocre photo quality No expandable memory

We remain at BBK Electronics, which owns brands like Oppo and Realme as well as OnePlus. With the Nord CE 5G, OnePlus shows, as the name suggests, that you can get a future-proof smartphone with 5G mobile technology for less than 300 euros (see Amazon). As with the Realme above, the AMOLED display impresses with its rich colors. The Nord 2 5G also beats the Snapdragon 750G 5G. Together with the refresh rate of 90 Hz, mobile phone games are also possible as long as they aren't power guzzlers.

While the battery performs very well in the Stiftung Warentest, the camera only achieves a satisfactory grade - good lighting conditions are necessary for good pictures . But if you can refrain from that, you still get a successful smartphone for less than 300 euros with the OnePlus Nord CE 5G.

OxygenOS operating system based on Android 11 Display 6.43 inch AMOLED 2,400 × 1,080 pixels 90 Hz SoC Snapdragon 750G 5G RAM 6 to 12 GB Internal memory 128 to 256 GB ( not expandable) Camera 16 MP front camera 64 MP main camera 8 MP ultra wide angle 2 MP mono -Lens Battery 4,500 mAh (quick charge function, wired) Special features Jack connection Fingerprint sensor and face recognition NFC support

You can find out which smartphones from other price ranges are worth a look in these xiaomist overviews:

That's how we chose

There are many smartphones in the price range below 300 euros. Certain characteristics were an exclusion criterion for us, such as being too old. We based our tests partly on our own tests, on the other hand on the results of the Stiftung Warentest - reviews are linked to the relevant products. The results of other test sites and user ratings also influence the selection. The latter were helpful because they didn't judge based on benchmark numbers and other laboratory values, which were rather uninformative, but instead emphasized individual impressions.

In a separate article you can find out more about how we at xiaomist deal with product recommendations and tests:

With our research, we at xiaomist want to recommend you suitable products and avoid bad purchases. Your trust is important to us - that's why you can rely on us.

I myself have been dealing with mobile phones and smartphones for years. All generations have fascinated me, from the Nokia classics to the first clamshell and slide cell phones to smartphones. Personally, not only technical innovations are important to me, but also sustainability.

A note on the prices: Most Android smartphones are subject to strong price fluctuations, especially in the first 6 months after the market launch, they fall the fastest. Deal events like Prime Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday also have a strong impact on prices. We keep you up to date on current offers in our deal overview, it's worth checking out the daily offers regularly!
