iPhone for little money: My personal price-performance winner

With the new iPhone SE (2022), Apple has raised prices. The cheapest entry into the iPhone world is now 519 euros. However, the cheapest choice does not always have to be the smartest. Another iPhone costs only slightly more - and in my opinion offers better value for money.

Apple has really not given the iPhone SE (2022) many innovations. With the exception of the new A15 chip, almost everything remains the same. That doesn't have to be bad, because with the "Special Edition" Apple is primarily targeting people who want a handy iPhone with Touch ID - that's one half of the truth. The other: The iPhone SE was always the cheapest entry into the iPhone world. Anyone who wanted an iPhone for as little money as possible grabbed the iPhone SE.

But cheap does not have to mean good value for money. The new iPhone SE (2022) makes a huge leap up: from 479 euros for the predecessor to 519 euros now. This changes the signs and the question of which iPhone can be considered the best value for money has to be answered anew.

The advantages of the iPhone 11 are enormous

At 519 euros, the new iPhone SE is in line with the iPhone 11 that Apple is still offering. It's 2.5 years old, but it's far from being old-fashioned . The advantages of the iPhone 11 over the iPhone SE (2022) are enormous:

Larger display with higher resolution Dual Face ID cameras Higher resolution selfie camera Longer battery life Better protection against dust and water More color choices

Apart from the more compact dimensions and the lighter weight , the main advantages of the iPhone SE (2022) are the new and more powerful A15 processor, the 5G support and longer software updates .

In my opinion, only the last argument really holds water. If the past serves as a yardstick, the new iPhone SE will receive software updates for at least six to seven years – ideally by 2029. Because the iPhone 11 has been available for more than two years, it should be over by 2026. Apple coordinates the hardware and software so finely that the A13 processor in the iPhone 11 should also ensure sufficient performance in everyday life for a long time to come and the practical advantages of 5G will probably be a long time coming, at least in Germany .

My advice to bargain hunters is therefore : Spend a little more and buy the iPhone 11. The bottom line is that it offers better value for money - and currently costs around 550 euros (view at Coolblue) only slightly more than the iPhone SE (2022).
