Only Google itself knows why the Pixel 6 doesn't have Face Unlock. In any case, Face Unlock was seen as a feature in leaked press material shortly before the release of the two models. But in the finished devices there was nothing more to see.
Since the two Google phones only have normal front cameras, Face Unlock could only be implemented as a pure software solution. But will Google still play along when it comes to security? Apparently yes, because again there are indications of a possible implementation of Face Unlock on the Pixel 6.
The feature would not be new at Google, however, thanks to 3D sensors in the Pixel 4, it was the only Google phone that had Face Unlock on board.
But now Face Unlock appears in the Pixel Feature Drop for June 2022. In the latest Android 12 QPR3 Beta 1.1, a config file was found that mentions Face Unlock again. So that suggests that Google is experimenting with it again. And maybe in the summer we can then unlock the Pixel 6 (Pro) with our faces?!
