Google announces major Android updates for Photos, Gboard, Live Transcription and more

Google updates

In addition to the latest updates to the Messages app, Google today announced a variety of improvements to various products and services including Photos, Gboard, Assistant, Google TV, Nearby Share and more.

You can now apply the portrait blur feature of photos to subjects other than people, e.g. B. on pets, food and plants. The feature is available if you own one of Google's best Android phones, like the Pixel 6, and have a Google One subscription.

You can even use on old photos taken years ago when this feature didn't exist.

Google is also expanding its options that allow users to pay for parking. In addition to the Maps function for paying for parking spaces, the assistant is now following suit. With the digital assistant, you can now pay by voice, check the status or extend the parking meter.

The feature works with Google Pay to process your payment. However, the feature isn't available at every parking meter: it's rolling out in more than 400 US cities where ParkMobile is available.

Google is also making Gboard's grammar checker tool available to everyone. It was initially launched exclusively for the Pixel 6 before expanding to other Pixel models. Today's announcement should help all Gboard app users spot grammatical errors in their messages as they type and make the necessary corrections. The feature also works on device to protect your privacy.

The Live Transcribe app, designed for users with hearing impairments, has gained an offline mode. This means that the speech-to-text transcription tool should now be able to support conversations taking place in areas where internet access is sporadic. The app also comes preinstalled on Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones.

In addition, Google improves on Nearby Share with a new option to share a file with multiple users at the same time. The AirDrop clone previously limited file transfers to two users. The feature will be rolled out for devices running Android 6 or higher.

Google also introduced a new Screen Time widget that lets you see three apps you've used heavily throughout the day. The goal is to help you stay on top of your screen time.

Another small update is the new Highlights tab on Google TV. The new feature shows a "personalized feed of entertainment news, reviews and more based on movies and shows that interest you."
