We have already been able to test the new Xiaomi 12, a phone that comes with a concept that is somewhat different from what Xiaomi has accustomed us to, presenting a really compact device that will delight those users who are looking for a small and very powerful smartphone, so We are going to tell you what our first impressions have been with this team that, as we already told you, have been very, very good.

A work of art that you can use with one hand
It will be quite difficult not to convey in these first impressions our happiness at having in front of us a high-end compact phone that we can use with one hand, and the size of this Xiaomi 12 is a complete pass if you do not want to carry with you a phone that is too big to take up practically your entire pocket.
But this is not the only positive point that we have found right out of the box, but we have also been very surprised by the finish that has been given to the back of the equipment, a matte finish with a rough touch that makes the device is extremely clean, a joy to be able to use it without a cover (which is included in the product box itself).
In the case of our unit, it has come with a purple finish, although we also have it available in a gray and blue finish, but we have to say that this particular color is very well integrated and aesthetically very beautiful, which, added to the rear camera module, make the team look spectacular in any situation.
Another detail that we want to mention is that the phone feels solid in the hand, from the metal edges themselves to the buttons that we find on its right side, which have a magnificent travel and give a feeling of being very well built. For its part, on the upper and lower edges we find a double stereo speaker, a classic infrared port on Xiaomi phones in addition to the USB-C socket and tray for the dual nano SIM.
Moving on to the front, we come across a classic design in the brand's latest releases, with a hole in the screen in the upper center and a panel that is quite well used with respect to the edge that complete an aesthetic that has few drawbacks. you can put it.
In it we find the fingerprint sensor that responds quite well and without errors , clearly at the level of other high-end devices in the Android territory, as well as facial recognition , which works without problems although with a lower degree of security although, yes, we recommend registering several fingerprints and faces so that the recognition is more accurate since it can fail more than desired if we do not do it.

And if we talk about the hardware of this little beast, well, we will have little surprise if we tell you that this phone flies. Inside we find the best Qualcomm processor to date, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 along with 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 or 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage.
Although it is true that for the moment we have not been able to squeeze too much from the smartphone, the little that we have been able to demand from it has been solved with amazing ease. From playing demanding video games to running several applications simultaneously, recording video or taking photos, all of this can be done by the Xiaomi 12 practically without flinching, and it is certainly great news.
But this power must be fed, and for this Xiaomi has introduced a battery with a 4500 mAh capacity inside this Xiaomi 12, which we can recharge via cable with up to 67 W of power (whose charger is also included in the box ) or wirelessly with a power of 30 W, which is not bad at all.
At the moment we cannot tell you too much about our experience with this battery, the only thing we have noticed is that the cost at rest is somewhat higher than what we expected at first, so everything looks like the autonomy will be enough to get through the day but we will have to be vigilant so as not to run into trouble at the end of the day, something that we can always solve with a fast connection to that 67W charger.
But not everything remains in that, since this terminal also equips the latest in terms of connectivity, having access to 5G networks , WiFi 6 , NFC to make mobile payments and even that infrared sensor that we were talking about before, so little we can demand more from it and we do not miss anything important so that its benefits are at the highest level.
Multimedia is another of the priorities of this device
Of course, this smartphone integrates a double speaker at the top and bottom signed by Harman Kardon , and in our first use the truth is that it has given us a pretty good experience, from the volume that they are capable of offering to the level of detail. that they reproduce, very much on a par with other equipment of similar ranges and more than enough to be able to listen to music or play videos with quality.
And what would this audio be without a good screen? Well, that's what Xiaomi has thought and that is why, although the panel is smaller in size compared to its previous generation, its quality is beyond doubt. How could it be otherwise, it uses AMOLED technology, and its size is a discreet 6.28 inches with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, in addition to other associated technologies such as HDR10 +, Dolby Vision or DisplayMate A+ .
Although, although these technologies are important, perhaps the data that most attracts our attention is the maximum brightness of 1,100 nits that it is capable of reaching as well as 12-bit color reproduction, which already leaves us clear ( at least on paper) that this panel should offer us a quality that matches the price we are paying.
For our part we can tell you that at least in our first impressions we have had the feeling that this translates into a magnificent visual and tactile experience, and that is that the response of the panel is magnificent, feeling like a very electric terminal and the reproduction of colors and display are of the highest level , so there are few objections we can make, especially considering that its size is a real joy.

And finally, we have to talk about the photographic section, which is not exactly short either. First of all, the configuration of these cameras is divided into three rear sensors with the following specifications:

What does all this translate? Well, starting with the main sensor, the truth is that we have to tell you that the performance is outstanding. Yes it is true that in good light conditions we notice some over saturation, but in general the quality offered by this sensor is fantastic, with a very well managed HDR and in general an ease to capture good photographs that surprises.
And it is surprising above all for the speed with which this device is capable of focusing thanks to the Cyber Focus technology that integrates this new generation, with which we can capture photos almost instantly, always being in focus and with good post-processing.
And something similar happens with the night mode where, although we have not yet been able to squeeze it to the fullest, the truth is that the level of detail is amazing, the control of highlights is at the level of the best phones on the market and, in general, , the result has delighted us, helped by that night mode that gives it an aesthetic plus.
If we talk about the wide-angle lens, something similar has happened to us, and it is that the results it gives in good light conditions are very good, being able to alternate between both sensors without fear of significantly losing quality or that the level of detail is affected , it is noted that the processing of the images has been very careful in this generation.
Of course, we also have to talk about the macro sensor which, at least a priori, could seem like an additional sensor that we are going to use little, but we have to tell you that the experience with it is up to the level of the phone as a whole and the We liked the results very much , from the level of detail to the speed to focus on any object.
As for the selfie camera, we have a 32 MP sensor with an f/2.45 aperture which we haven't been able to test too much for now , but which shows a fairly decent quality and, above all, with a very well managed HDR control. so the results will satisfy almost any user (as long as you deactivate the blissful beauty effect).
Finally, we must also mention the video section, which is capable of reaching a resolution of up to 8K at 24 fps (including 4K 60 fps) and, as is the case with the rest of the photographic section, it yields a very impressive result. good both at the level of detail and especially in stabilization and focus, so it is undoubtedly at the level of the best smartphones on the market in this regard in good light conditions.
There is no such compact and high-end device in the entire Android landscape
After this first contact with the new Xiaomi 12, the truth is that our sensations could not have been better, and this device more than complies in practically all sections, showing a fantastic balance in all of them, and also having the latest version of MIUI 13 based on Android 12 with all the improvements that this entails.
Of course, it remains to be thoroughly tested and corroborate these good feelings that it has given us in the first instance, but we can tell you that if you are looking for a compact phone, very comfortable to use and with a relatively contained price, this Xiaomi 12 may be undoubtedly one of the best options on the market.
