{Disarmed} This is the reason why (supposedly) your Xiaomi mobile does not give all the power that it actually can

This is the reason why (supposedly) your Xiaomi mobile does not give all the power that it actually can

As we already know, one of the obsessions that brands have when it comes to differentiating their phones from the competition is to offer the greatest possible power but, apparently, not all of them do it in the most lawful way possible. In fact, thanks to John Poole, one of the developers of the well-known performance test app called GeekBench , we have been able to learn that Xiaomi is carrying out a trick so that its score in applications of this type is higher than it should be.

This information has been shared through John's own official Twitter account , where he has stated that the Chinese company provides its teams with a software-level tool that is capable of detecting the application it is running and, immediately afterwards, Provide more or less power to the processor and its different components depending on its requirements.

Different results depending on the application that we are running

As John Poole explains in his experience, he was using a Xiaomi Mi 11 for different performance tests and found that the GeekBench scores were different when he ran the regular version of this app , just like with another build of this software based on in the video game Fortnite .

Apparently, in single-core performance tests, this device scores around 30% lower in the disguised version of GeekBench compared to the standard app that we can install on any phone. And something similar happens with the multicore tests, where the score also showed a 15% lower performance than usual.

But this did not stop there, since this compilation based on Fortnite was not the only one to show such a disparate score, exactly the same thing happening in other games like Genshin Impact , which confirms that Xiaomi has integrated different mechanisms to detect the application that is executing the system to offer one or another score depending on the needs of the system.

Therefore, this news can be a double-edged sword since, either we can interpret it as the brand forcing its phones not to offer the greatest possible power in certain apps so as not to compromise their autonomy , or we can take it on the side that saves that extra power to be able to appear in higher positions in the ranking of this type of performance applications.

Be that as it may, it is clear that the company has total control over its software at the performance level for more or less legal tasks, but the truth is that it is not in good taste that these types of techniques are carried out in order to have a better perception by the user although, luckily, it is not a problem that is reflected in the power of the phones on a day-to-day basis, which, on a regular basis, tend to give a fluid experience and without obvious lack of power.
