AirPods 3 or AirPods Pro with MagSafe charging case? The decision is currently easier again, because Amazon is giving Apple's Pro earphones a hefty discount - a significant price drop. The price level of the predecessors without MagSafe is reached again, so our recommendation is safe.

Update from March 21, 2022: After weeks and months, the new version of the AirPods Pro with MagSafe charging case is again significantly cheaper than when the product was launched at the end of last year and is therefore at the price level of the predecessors. As part of a price campaign, Amazon is charging only 195.99 euros , significantly less than the official Apple price and thus again a real alternative to the AirPods 3 (view at Amazon).

We now pay less for them (currently 170 euros at Amazon, have a look), but the surcharge of just under 26 euros for the AirPods Pro makes us tend towards the earphones with ANC.

Apple's AirPods family is growing with the new 3rd generation headphones and at first glance appears logically ordered by price. On paper it looks like this:

AirPods 2: 149 euros AirPods 3: 199 euros AirPods Pro: 279 euros AirPods Max: 612.70 euros

However, the prices only apply to customers who buy directly from Apple. On the other hand, if you look around in free trade, you can save a lot of money. At least this is currently still the case for the AirPods Pro. You can get them for around 200 euros and 80 euros cheaper in stores (view at Amazon). In the end, the same price as Apple calls for the AirPods 3 (view at Cyberport). The new headphones are still too fresh for a price drop to be visible right now. Ergo: If you can do math, you'd rather go straight to the AirPods Pro and not buy them directly from Apple.

However, they will probably become more expensive again in the next few weeks. How do we get that? The explanation: Apple is quietly changing a tiny detail on the AirPods Pro. A MagSafe charging case equivalent to the AirPods 3 can now be found in the box. In other words, a charging case that not only allows wireless charging, but also magnetically locks itself correctly when using the MagSafe charging puck.

This applies to the AirPods Pro models that you can currently buy directly from Apple. However, the "older" models without MagSafe are still commercially available. They are currently still cheaper than those offered by Apple. Sooner or later, however, retailers will have to buy the new model and then possibly offer it at a slightly higher price. It is therefore very possible that there will soon be two model variants of the AirPods Pro on the market, with the younger one with the MagSafe charging case in all likelihood costing more again.

Ergo: If you want to save money, you 'd better buy the AirPods Pro now quickly at a reasonable price. You can then happily do without the MagSafe charging case. Wireless charging is still possible, even without magnetic alignment.
