6G could hit the mass market in 2029

6G network

Research and work on 6G has been going on for several years. However, the successor to 5G will still be a long time coming. Huawei and many other manufacturers are researching 6G intensively, and yet it will probably take until the end of the decade for 6G to reach the mass market.

At a press conference at the Mobile World Congress, the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance (NGMN) announced the year 2029, when we can probably expect the first 6G devices in the mass market.

In addition to Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone, mobile operators developing 6G include Orange (France), NTT Docomo (Japan) and SK Telecom (South Korea). A total of 17 network operators are currently actively involved in the development of 6G.

Research into the development of 6G has been ongoing since 2020. The Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance is initially concentrating on the development of various usage scenarios and then the technical foundations are to be determined. According to the NGMN, it was the other way around before.
