Xiaomi wants to take on Apple in the global high-end phone market

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun has clearly expressed the company's intention to be a leader in the global high-end smartphone market. Lei Jun said that the company wants to compete with Apple in terms of its products and the overall user experience with those products. The focus is on the high-end segment of the global smartphone market, where Apple has a dominant market share after Huawei's woes.

The tech giant's CEO described competition in the high-end segment of the smartphone market as a life-and-death struggle that the company must overcome to sustain its growth. Apple continues to be the leader in the premium segment of the global smartphone market, and it's obviously not easy for Xiaomi.

Chinese smartphone makers are jumping into the huge vacuum created by the demise of the Huawei brand, and Xiaomi is taking a competitive edge among China's leading tech companies. Lei said the company's strategic goal is to become the world's largest smartphone vendor by 2025.

Xiaomi had indeed seen an uptick in recent years that Huawei has been going downhill. The company has established a leading position in the Chinese market and also worldwide. Lei says Xiaomi has committed to investing 100 billion yuan ($15.71 billion) in R&D over the next five years to achieve its strategic goals.

Recent global data shows that Xiaomi is doing a good job at the top, and it could overtake Apple or Samsung in a couple of years if it stays on its current course.
