Xiaomi Redmi K50 gaming phone was introduced
Xiaomi held an event in China earlier today in which it introduced the Redmi K50 gaming phone: the first member of the long-awaited K50 Redmi series and the direct successor to last year's K40 gaming phone. The new phone uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 flagship chipset, 1st generation, and offers a fast 120-watt charge. It is also the first phone in the partnership between Xiaomi Formula One and Mercedes AMG Petronas with a special limited edition of this phone that has the logo and colors of the racing team.
Like last year's K40, there is a pair of physical game stimulators on the right side of the phone. The phone also has a Xiaomi CyberEngine X-axis touch engine and dual JBL speakers. The phone has a metal frame while the back is made of glass.
Xiaomi has developed a completely new cooling system with dual steam chamber (VC) to control the Snapdragon 8 generation 1 chipset and other components. In addition, it has a copper radiator that is located just above the chipset. Xiaomi has also used dual graphite sheets, stainless steel and mesh materials.
The Xiaomi Redmi K50 gaming phone has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with FHD + resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate. This panel has 10-bit colors and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. There's a 20-megapixel Sony IMX 596 camera on the front, while on the back there's a 64-megapixel Sony IMX 686 main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 2-megapixel telephoto macro camera.
The phone has a 4700 mAh battery with a charge of 120 watts, which Xiaomi claims can be fully charged in just 17 minutes. In the demo program shown on stage, the phone takes 37 minutes to fully charge while actively used to play a MOBA game. Available in MIUI 13 software based on Android 12. The phone also has WiFi 6E and NFC connectivity.
Xiaomi Redmi K50 gaming phone is available in dream colors of blue, silver and black, as well as the Mercedes AMG F1 version.
The base model of the Redmi K50 with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 memory is priced at 3,299 yuan ($ 520). There is also a 12.128 GB version priced at 3599 yuan ($ 567) and a 12.256 GB version priced at 3899 yuan ($ 615). The limited edition Mercedes AMG F1 model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is priced at 4199 yuan ($ 662).
Free sales in China are scheduled for February 18. The international price and availability of this phone have not been announced yet.
