Samsung Galaxy A12: Secure throughout the day thanks to the strong battery

Benefits:

long battery life adaptive charging possible space for 2 SIM and 1 memory card

Disadvantage:

long loading time mediocre camera

Fans of the manufacturer Samsung can already strike for less than 200 euros (view at Amazon). With the Galaxy A12 you get a smartphone that easily masters everyday functions. An update to Android 12 is planned for the operating system for July 2022, so you don't have to worry about that either. With the MediaTek processor, 60 Hz refresh rate and 4 GB of RAM, do n't expect a gaming smartphone . However, Stiftung Warentest praises the battery - with a runtime of 51 hours with adjusted brightness, you really can't complain here. But for this, the smartphone needs to be charged for 3 hours.

With the camera, the test result from Stiftung Warentest was only satisfactory. In our selection, the Galaxy A12 outperforms the xiaomist.comset GS4, but lags behind the other models. But with good lighting conditions, you still get usable pictures. So if you don't want to do without a smartphone from Samsung for less than 200 euros and can make compromises, you won't go wrong with the Galaxy A12.

Operating system One UI 2.5 based on Android 10 Display 6.5 inch LCD 1,600 x 720 pixels 60 Hz SoC MediaTek Helio P35 RAM 4 GB Internal memory 64 GB (expandable) Camera 8 MP front camera 48 MP main camera 5 MP ultra wide angle 2 MP macro Lens 2 MP depth sensor Battery 5,000 mAh (quick charge function, wired and wireless) Special features Jack connection Triple slot Fingerprint sensor NFC support

Realme 8: A lot of performance for little money

Benefits:

high-contrast display long battery life triple slot for SIM and memory cards

Disadvantage:

no wireless charging possible no IP certification

With the Realme 8 you get a Full HD resolution, which thanks to AMOLED is very rich in contrast and shouldn't cause any problems outdoors. Smartphone fans who value a high-quality display will get this with the Realme 8. With a working memory of 4 to 8 GB and the MediaTek processor, even gaming on the smartphone does not cause any problems.

As with the other smartphones in this price range, the same applies to the camera quality of the Realme 8: Good lighting conditions ensure good pictures. Nevertheless, the smartphone in our selection has the strongest camera. You can also rely on a long battery life. And a special feature of the Realme is the triple slot : you can place two nano SIM cards and one micro SD card in the smartphone. For just under 170 euros (view at Amazon), the Realme 8 offers a fair price-performance ratio.

Operating system realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 Display 6.4 inch AMOLED 2,400 x 1,080 pixels 60 Hz SoC MediaTek Helio G95 RAM 4 to 8 GB Internal memory 128 GB (expandable) Camera 16 MP front camera 64 MP main camera 8 MP ultra wide angle 2 MP Macro lens 2 MP Depth sensor Battery 5,000 mAh (quick charge function, wired) Special features Jack connection Triple slot Fingerprint sensor NFC support

xiaomist.comset GS4: Changing the battery made easy

Benefits:

partially regionally manufactured replaceable battery wireless charging

Disadvantage:

weak camera no IP certification

If you're looking for a smartphone that's cheap, but whose production is still sustainable and fair, the xiaomist.comset GS4 (see at Amazon) is a good choice. xiaomist.comset is based in Bocholt (North Rhine-Westphalia), so the smartphone was (at least partially) manufactured regionally . In addition, one pays attention to recyclable and exchangeable materials for the devices and the packaging, according to the manufacturer (source: xiaomist.comset). The GS4 scores among other things with a replaceable battery, which on the other hand makes it not waterproof.

Let's get to the inner workings of the GS4: With Android 10, xiaomist.comset relies on an outdated operating system. When we asked, the manufacturer confirmed an update to Android 11 for early 2022, although this should (probably) remain the last update. With a working memory of 4 GB RAM and the eight-core processor from MediaTek, the smartphone still does a good job in everyday life, but the focus should not be on demanding gaming. In addition, according to Stiftung Warentest, the camera performance again only achieves a satisfactory grade.

If you are looking for smartphones in higher price ranges, we have some recommendations for you in another article:

But let's come to a few special features: The GS4 has NFC support and comes with a triple slot. In addition, you can unlock the phone with your fingerprint or face recognition and charge it both wired and wirelessly - functions that are rarely found bundled in this price range.

Operating system Android 10 Display 6.3 inch LCD 2340 x 1080 pixels 60 Hz SoC MediaTek Helio P70 RAM 4 GB Internal memory 64 (expandable) Camera 13 MP front camera 16 MP main camera 5 MP wide angle 2 MP macro camera Battery 4,300 mAh (fast charge function, wired and wireless ) Special features Jack connection NFC support triple slot face recognition and fingerprint sensor

Motorola Moto G30: Robust endurance runner

Benefits:

brisk processor strong battery IP certification

Disadvantage:

No Full HD display, no wireless charging possible

The Motorola Moto G30 (see Otto) is similar to the Samsung above in terms of display resolution, but impresses with smoother images thanks to a refresh rate of 90 Hz . Together with the Snapdragon 662, the G30 is quite suitable for gaming. In terms of camera performance, the Motorola is also comparable to the previous Realme 8 and can therefore be proud of in our selection.

If you value a strong battery, you should go for the Moto G30. According to the Stiftung Warentest, it lasts 45 hours if used regularly with normal brightness. So you should get by with one battery charge for two days more or less. In addition, according to IP52, the smartphone is protected against dust and dripping water .

Android 11 operating system Display 6.5 inch LCD 1,600 x 720 pixels 90 Hz SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 RAM 4 to 6 GB Internal memory 128 GB (expandable) Camera 13 MP Front camera 64 MP Wide angle 8 MP Ultra wide angle 2 MP Macro lens 2 MP Depth sensor Battery 5,000 mAh (quick charge function, wired) Special features Jack connection Fingerprint sensor and face recognition IP52 (protection against dust and dripping water) NFC support

Xiaomi Redmi 10: The all-rounder

Benefits:

sharp display strong battery infrared sensor

Disadvantage:

no wireless charging possible no IP certification

With the Redmi 10 (view at Amazon) you get a 90 Hz display, which together with the Full HD resolution ensures a sharp and smooth picture . Similar to the Motorola and Realme above, the Xiaomi runs Android 11 out of the box, and the processor is more than sufficient for everyday applications. In terms of the camera, the Redmi 10 ranks alongside the other smartphones in this overview. You don't get the highest resolution, but you shouldn't expect that in this price range.

However, the cell phone convinces with a wide feature set, including a fingerprint sensor and face recognition for unlocking, as well as slots for two SIM cards and a micro SD card. Furthermore, the Redmi 10 has an infrared sensor, so you can use it as a remote control, and NFC support. So if you are looking for an all-rounder smartphone for little money , you will find it in the Xiaomi Redmi 10.

Operating system MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 Display 6.5 inch LCD 2,400 x 1,080 pixels 90 Hz SoC MediaTek Helio G88 RAM 4 to 6 GB Internal memory 64 to 128 GB (expandable) Camera 8 MP front camera 50 MP main camera 8 MP ultra wide angle 2 MP macro lens 2 MP depth sensor 5,000 mAh battery (quick charge function, wired) Special features Jack connection Triple slot NFC support Fingerprint sensor and face unlock

Do you only know Xiaomi as a smartphone manufacturer? In our video we show you which products the Chinese company is still (more or less) known for:

This is how the selection of xiaomist was put together

There are many smartphones in the price range below 200 euros. Certain characteristics were an exclusion criterion for us, such as being too old. We have partly based our own tests on the results of the Stiftung Warentest - reviews are linked to the corresponding products. The results of other test sites and user ratings also influence the selection. The latter were helpful because they didn't judge based on benchmark numbers and other laboratory values that didn't say much, but rather emphasized individual impressions.

In a separate article you can find out more about how we at xiaomist deal with product recommendations and tests:

With our research, we at xiaomist want to recommend you suitable products and avoid bad purchases. Your trust is important to us - that's why you can rely on us.

I myself have been dealing with mobile phones and smartphones for years. All generations have fascinated me, from the Nokia classics to the first clamshell and slide cell phones to smartphones. Personally, not only technical innovations are important to me, but also sustainability.

Finally, a note on the prices: With smartphones, strong price fluctuations are to be expected again and again. As soon as a new generation appears, the previous series can quickly suffer a price drop, which means that models that were previously too expensive suddenly fit into your personal budget. Deal events such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday also have a strong impact on prices. We keep you up to date on current offers in our deal overview, it's worth checking out the daily offers regularly!
