Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has competition: Android smartwatches are getting much better
With the Galaxy Watch 4, Samsung currently offers the best smartwatch. Not only is it the only watch that can access the latest software from Google, it also has a completely new processor. Now, however, new Android smartwatches are on the way, which will make Samsung a good competitor. And they come at just the right time.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has real competition
For the past year, I've been saying that if you have a Samsung smartphone, you shouldn't buy any Android smartwatches other than the Galaxy Watch 4. I'm sticking by that to this day and what you could expect is happening. Qualcomm is developing new processors for smartwatches . The Snapdragon Wear 5100 and Wear 5100+ are announced. These are manufactured using 4 nm technology, have more cores than the current 4100 series, which leads to more performance, and can work particularly efficiently, so that the battery life should increase noticeably (source: WinFuture).
But not only the performance and efficiency of the smartwatch chip should improve , there should also be other innovations. This includes, for example, improved haptic feedback and fall detection. The latter is probably only reserved for the Plus model. The latest WiFi and GPS sensors are also used.
What makes the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 so special:
New smartwatch processor could come at the right time
Samsung has made an exclusive deal with Google for a certain period of time, so only the South Korean manufacturer can use the "Wear OS 3.0" operating system for the Galaxy Watch 4 (for testing). All other manufacturers are stuck on the older version. This agreement is about to expire. So we could expect completely new smartwatches in a few months, which will then really run with the latest software from Google and at the same time have a brand new processor , which in turn will be supported for the next few years. Then the duel between Samsung and the various smartwatch manufacturers could again take place at eye level.
