Realme was the fastest growing smartphone brand in Europe last year, with a staggering CAGR of 548 percent, according to the latest Strategy Analytics report.

The Chinese brand has been at the forefront of growth throughout 2021, despite only having a presence in Europe since 2019. Its smartphone shipments increased by 500 percent in the fourth quarter of 2021 and by 548 percent in the full year of 2021.

However, there were subtle differences between regions -- in Central and Eastern Europe, Realme grew 643 percent YoY, while in Western Europe it grew 416 percent YoY in 2021.

The company also made it into the top 5 brands for the first time last year and is now only surpassed by Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi and Oppo (in terms of market share). In Western Europe, Realme rose from 13th place in Q4 2020 to 5th place in Q4 2021. Also in Central and Eastern Europe, the company rose from 13th place in Q4 2020 to 4th place in Q4 2021.

Strategy Analytics believes that the right marketing strategy, a diverse product portfolio, competitive product specifications and aggressive pricing combined were the driving force behind Realme's rapid growth.
