OnePlus officially announces OxygenOS 13, which shouldn t actually exist

Oxygen OS 13 teaser

In 2021, OnePlus announced "OnePlus 2.0", which is the name of the merger with sister company Oppo. As part of that announcement, the company said it would merge its own OxygenOS skin with Oppo's ColorOS skin to create a "unified operating system". This new interface is set to launch with one of the flagship smartphones in 2022.

But now OnePlus has officially announced OxygenOS 13, which is likely to be based on Android 13. This comes as a bit of a surprise, since they are actually working on the Unified OS, which should appear in the second half of the year .

The company made the announcement in connection with one of its Open Ears forums. In this OEF, developers and fans will come together to talk about OxygenOS 13. However, the forum is only open to 15 guests.

Ultimately, we are very confused by this whole situation. It was actually assumed that OxygenOS 12 would be the last version of the system and that the unified OS would succeed it.

So it's possible that OnePlus will stick with the OxygenOS branding. That didn't appear to be the case when the company announced its merger with Oppo, but it's possible that the company is keeping its branding separate from Oppo's, even if the code on both is identical. That seems like an odd decision, but the mere existence of OxygenOS 13 suggests that it could be possible.
