Motorola patent could show new RAZR 3 foldable
Motorola was one of the first manufacturers to come up with a foldable clamshell smartphone. Now a new patent from the company suggests it wants to turn the new RAZR inside out. It focuses on a new design that allows a device of this form factor to bend the other way compared to the existing device.
Motorola has hinted that it could soon update its new foldable RAZR series with a new generation. Now, Motorola has patented a new type of mobile device frame that allows a flexible OLED display to be placed on the outside of the phone, rather than on the inside as is the case with current foldable clamshell smartphones.
The potential new breed of clamshell smartphone uses a novel type of hinge to support a form factor that otherwise looks very similar to current RAZR variants, with chin and all. Motorola also hints that the phone could function as a dual-display device when folded.
So there could soon be an alternative to the RAZR. Or not, and Motorola only filed the patent so the competition couldn't build such a device. wait and see
