MacBook Pro 2022: What Apple s cheap model has to do without
Apple is working on a new and cheap MacBook Pro, but the "cheap model" also has to do without some details, according to a recent insider report. So what does Apple's compromise look like in the end?
The currently cheapest MacBook Pro was presented in November 2020, and Apple's M1 works in it. On the other hand, the new variants with 14 and 16-inch displays from October 2021 are really new, but also much more expensive. Apple is currently working on a replacement for the first variant in a new look.
Apple's entry-level MacBook Pro without a ProMotion display
But the low price is paid for by doing without , according to Apple insider Mark Gurman (source: Power-On-Newsletter). Of course, there is no longer a touch bar; Apple has long since given up the small OLED bar in the current models. As far as foreseeable. More interesting: In contrast to the current Pro models, there is no fast ProMotion display with 120 Hz and generally no mini-LED screen.
You also have to do without the M1 Pro or the M1 Max, instead the new M2 should work in the housing. This is the second generation of the standard processor without any pro ambitions. Gurman writes:
"I expect the new entry-level MacBook Pro to match the high-end MacBook Pros in losing the Touch Bar, but the key differentiators will be lower displays, processors, and storage, and no ProMotion or miniLED."
Something like this but without the pro display and pro chips:
Even more Apple computers with M2 chips
Hopefully, however, the new shape and the connections should be adopted. Of course, the cheap MacBook Pro will not be the only Apple computer with an M2 chip , the expert continues:
"It will be one of many Macs in the pipeline to feature the M2 chip, including the refreshed 24-inch iMac, entry-level Mac mini and revamped MacBook Air."
A new MacBook Air is also expected for this year:
In short: Apple has a lot planned for the current year. However, we can only expect the innovations in autumn 2022. Apple's Pro chips will find a new home before that, so a Mac mini with M1 Pro or M1 Max should be presented in spring. The iMac Pro will follow in late summer – the 27-inch version of the current iMac with Pro chips. The new versions of the standard models with the M2 chip that I mentioned will be available in autumn. Ergo: an "M2 Pro" or "M2 Max" will not be seen again until 2023 at the earliest , according to our estimate.
